Weird Fleet Autopilot Bug

I've got this weird glitch where my fleets don't move over long distances properly. If I try and move them more than one or two squares they just don't move. Also, if I do manage to get the movement line where I want they move for one turn then stop. If anyone could help me figure this out it'd be great as its a little flustrating having to move my fleets every turn to get them going. Thanks.

How many movement points does the fleet have?

The fleet will move right away when you set a destination if it has movement points remaining. The next turn however, it won't move until you hit the turn button again, right before the AI moves it's ships.

Any loss of movement points may also be the work of the Super Isolationist ability which limits you to 3 movement points a turn. The Yor have this ability.

Which version of the game and patch # are you running?

I think your issue is one that Loupdinour correctly addresses here although his explanation may be slightly confusing as to what is meant by next turn.

When you set a destination the fleet immediately moves all of it's movement points along the chosen path. Then when you press the turn button this fleet will not move because all it's movement points were used up "by hand". However as long as you don't move the fleet by hand during the next turn then when the turn button is hit the 2nd time the fleet will continue along the path.

I'm not sure my explanation is any better than Loupdinour's but between the two of us you should get the idea.

One point about moving any distance is that you first select the fleet by "left clicking" on it which highlights the fleet with a blue circle. You then set the destination by "right clicking" on the destination. However what can happen if you move any distance is that you need to scroll the map to see the destination. Generally you do this by holding the right mouse button while moving the mouse. Sometimes this right mouse button action can be taken as an attempt to select another ship/fleet and you may lose the selection of the original fleet. In this case right clicking on a destination without the fleet selected will have no effect. Make sure that the fleet stays selected and you get the autopilot path to show up. If you don't already have it you should make sure you have "show autopilot path" selected in the Main Menu Options.

One last thought that Mumble drummed up in my head. If you right-clicked out in an area your sensors don't currently cover, and the parsec you had right-clicked had a ship in it actually (you couldn't know). If that ship then got destroyed/demolished or was a colony/constructor and got used up, your autopilot would be removed.

I've seen a fleet's autopilot destination move on me out in unexplored space and then cancel on me, so I know this happens and I can only think of one reason why.

I guess it would. Any passive speed bonuses would be at 0, so any additional speed given by them would be gone...

They've got 2 movement points, as I've just started and I'm running v1.80e

Just so I'm clear it isn't that they are running out of movement points, they just aren't moving at all if I right click further than a single square away from them. I even waited a few turns to see if they'd get moving the next turn, which they don't.(I went and checked just now to make sure I wasn't being stupid)
Also, Single ships autopilot fine, its just fleets.
Thanks for the advice, but its not a case of moving wrong.

Ahhh, wasn't there some sort of fleet movement bug back then? Perhaps you should update to the latest version of DA.

Hi,
I am experiencing the same problem, when I put ships into fleets, if I select a spot for them to move to that is beyond their range, they don't move. Removing them from the fleet allows them to move, however they get about double their allowed movement points.

From suggestions in this thread, I went to go and update my install of DA, since I remember the title screen showing 1.80e, however much to my surprise when I fire up SDC, it says I have 1.80g.100!

What version do I really have? (Note, I also have ToA, both were d/l'd after purchasing the 'Game of the Year' edition of DL)

Any suggestions?

Never mind, a little searching and I found my answer.

For anyone else's reference here is the thread that helped me.

Fixes for Pathfinding + Metaverse Error 12

My splash screen is now correctly showing 1.80g and I verified from a save game that the fleets are moving properly.
