HAPPY ONE ANNIVERSARY TO THE METAVERSE LEAGUE
One year ago in June of 2007, Ghostwes proposed a monthly competition that with the help and input of other GCII players, like Neilo, Mumblefratz, ElWhop0, and many others, evolved into what is now known as the Metaverse League.
As the discussion continued, this new concept led the players to nominate Neilo to become the first Commissioner of this new league, and to help structure it. Shortly thereafter, on July 13th, 2007, he announced the very first round of the MVL- a medium map, tech victory.
Originally 15 players, the MVL has ballooned at some points to a height of 36 players, and has had an average level of about 22.
The MVL has had Nine Official Rounds, with the first six being handled by Neilo, as Commissioner. After Round 6 he stepped down, and Silverbeacher was elected as Commissioner, who has run Rounds 7-9. Silverbeacher also administered the Special Bonus Round that took place after Round 8.
The MVL has also has had two major Drafts, where teams have been able to select new players.
Now one year in, the MVL is still going strong, having just incorporated Twilight of the Arnor into its playing field, and added a number of new players. As the One Year Anniversary occurs, the MVL administration prepares for Round 10 and the continuation of the League.
There are a few individuals that deserve special recognition for their help and contributions to the Metaverse League:
Neilo: The first MVL Commissioner, and then later Captain of the Eternal Villainy. He took the bull by the horns right at the start, and helped form a coherent and working league.
Ghostwes: The person that started it all. It may not have been exactly what he imagined, but he was still very proud to be a part of it.
Mumblefratz: Few players can bring the knowledge and just pure gravitas to this game that Mumblefratz was able to do. Uncalculable hours of fleshing out ideas, rules, game strategies, and so much more, made Mumblefratz, eventual Rulekeeper of the MVL, one of its most important and valued players.
Kryo: Not actually a participant in the MVL, but everyone's favorite Stardock employee was always there to answer questions on various Metaverse, or Kryo's very own AltMeta, issues. His help, albeit indirectly, of supporting the MVL has been of great benefit.
The Players: Thank you to everyone that has participated in the MVL, either since the beginning, new, or just in-between. Without you, there would be no League.
We invite you to come and check out the Metaverse League and participate with us.
-Silverbeacher,
Commissioner of the Metaverse League-
