These relatively minor suggestions would be very much appreciated. Well, at least they appear minor to my non-programmer self.
1) I like big galaxies, and even immense seems small. A large part of that is due to range having been a complete non-factor for me, ever, in GCII. Your starting tech alone can just about send a colony ship as far as I've ever needed to have it go. I remember having to build starbases in GC just to extend my range enuogh to reach some isolated clusters, even after having researched some range techs, and seeing the AI do the same. Right now, range techs are particularly useless to me, and the AI only wastes resources researching them.
I would personally like to see the range be the same on immense maps as it is in tiny maps (wasn't it like that in GC?), or reduced as much as possible without gimping the AI. Since this might not suit everyone, perhaps this is something that could be an option in the game setup. Oh, and if you could also make a galaxy larger than immense, well, that'd be nice too.
2) I think that it would be really cool if bonus tiles could be located on tiles unusuable without terraforming. They could either be visible or discovered only after the tile is terraformed, but either way it would allow for continued interest in colony development in mature colonies. Just imagine the additional impetus to developing terraforming techs that would come with knowing they would unlock a couple of Precursor libraries or factories.
I would think that that initially unusable tiles should be even slightly more likely to have bonus tiles. After all, perhaps those ruins became ruins because of natural or industrial disasters, making the site unfit for use without significant improvement. And, of course, those silly Precursors just had to build in the darndest of places, didn't they?
