I don't know in what category this topic fits best, but I reckon that
As you've probably already noticed: English isn't my first language, so I'll start with excusing for the inevitable spelling and gramar mistakes, and hope that you'll be able to understand me.
Ok, it started when I bought Galciv 2: Dreadlords from a local gamestore. I red the review on gamespot and got very exited about it. I love strategy games, and I love the space setting even more.
Unfortunately the game wasnt available in the country that I live in (the netherlands), but a local gamestore helped me out by importing the game from the US. After a few days I finaly got the call: The game had arrived. 30 minutes later I put the cd in the drive and finaly got to play the game. And ehm....WAUW.
Dear Devs, I don't know what you've done, or how you did it, but this game is worse than WOW and drugs combined =P
I continued to play this game for least 6 hours of every week in the following year. And just when I started to (how do you say that, ehm, rehabilitate?, you know, stopping with something your kinda addicted to =P) I discovered this website (normaly I never bother to visite the website of the developer) and discovered the patches.
Dear Devs, at that point you stole another year of my live =P Those damn patches made the game even more addictive.
But then, after months and months I finaly started playing this game less and less, I ehm...what was that word again? rehabilitated, (and I still got that feeling that this isn't the right word)
Anyway: I was close to finaly beying cured of my Galvic2 addiction when I visited your website one last time.
But then I saw something that I somehow failed to see before:
The devs had actualy made a expansion pack.
2 new races, an enchanced AI, custom AI opponents, this was just to much for me, to much to resist.
Its like bringing an Ex-alcoholic to the best wine shop in france. From that moment it was clear: I absolutely HAD to buy this game.
But the gods where against me: the local game store that was kind enough to import Galciv 2: dreadlords was now more...
(there is an word for that, and the frustrating part of it is that I know how to say/write that word in dutch, german and french....BUT NOT IN ENGLISH =P....but ehm...that shop didn't have any money anymore, do you call it bankrupted? I hope so, because iam writing it, and I want my audience to know what iam writng)
anyway: there was still hope: I decided to buy this game online. So I opened a paypall acount, transfered 35 euro's to buy this game, discovered that that was way to much because the dollar is kinda dying right now, went to this site's purchase section and bought the digital download only dark avatar version.
In the perfect world this would be the point where I told you that the dev's just stole another year of my live. Iam however, not writing that.
Pointing out that this is not only an imperfect world, but also telling you that something went wrong when I paid.
After I succesfully paid the site told me that they where re-directing me to stardock.com, I expected that they would give me my download + keycode there.
However: nothing happend. My browser got stuck on the "redirecting to stardock" screen. I tried everything, presing the "if the site does not load withing 10 sec, press here"button, refreshing the site, ect. But non of it worked. And then disaster struck: my computer froze, and I had to restart.
Worse, at that moment I received an email from paypal telling me that the transaction was succesfull. So I paid for something, without getting anything in return.
Is there anything that can be done? Or did I lose the money without getting my game? All help would be very appreciated,
Many thanks,
Jasper/ Athius.
PS: I'll copy paste the email at the bottom of this post, so you can check its authencity. (the original email was in dutch, i'll translate the important parts of it)
