AI does nothing on challenging???!!

Hi,

i'm currently playing on challenging diff. but none of the other races have economy or/and military only a big treasure.
In fact, none off the other races is doing anything....

is this a known bug?

When i'm playing on normal diff, the AI works as it should.

please help

How many times did you CTRL+N until you found a map/planet you liked? Sometimes CTRL+N will set the AI on some ridiculously low intel.

I did it like 8-10 times or so..

Is it a bug or a punishment .....

there is a bug where ctrl-n causes the ai to drop to very low levels

One thing you can do to see if you've hit the bug is, as soon as you meet your opponents check the foreign relations screen, stats tab under Misc. It will show the intelligence level of the AI. At challenging it should say Bright. If it's been reset it will say Fool, which is cakewalk.

aaaahhhhh...... that explains the one game I played where I did this and made it thru the whole game wondering why it was so easy and the AI's were, well, such _nice_ people to conquer. it also seems to (perhaps?) add mega-events and tech trading and influence victories even if you have them turned off?

(it did not help either that early in the game we were hit by first the plague and then the disease, and I was in a position to research the cures and apparently they were not in time - though they never bothered to ask for it from me either and even refused some trades where I offered it)
