I have been enjoying GC2(DA) since I began playing it a few months ago. I’ve also played GC1 a while ago. I wanted to share some thoughts I had on possibly changing the government and economy structure of the game.
First, I’ll mention that the economic/production sliders bother me. I feel that it’s a good way to control AI spending, but as a human I’d love to have more control. What I’d like to see is that each planet have its own spending dispersment, not based on a global slider or two.
Second, I’ll mention the Government types technologies don’t seem like they meet up to their potentials. I like the senate and voting options, and would love to see the senate have a greater roll in politics. Perhaps there could be events based on your popularity and other factors inside the game.
Third, I’d like to offer the a possible suggestion for fixing both problems with one stone. Have your ability to control the economic/production sliders based upon what government you are using. As a brief generic example of what I mean:
A) The starting government has only the master economic sliders that are currently in place. You cannot specialize production with the focus button.
The second government would be as we know the government now.
C) The third government would add slider bars at each colony level for each of social, military and research. For convenience they can default to the global value.
D) The fourth government would add slider bars at each colony level for each of social, military and research, as well as economic allocation. Each planet would indeed be as the description describes as a group of individual planets making an empire. Whatever a planet doesn’t use all of it’s money that gets sent to the federated bank, and/or it could take a certain fee off the top. convenience they can default to the global value.
As this gives a human much more economic freedom, there could be an alternative government tree called “Imperial” rule, which exactly matches the current system, but would be the government option the AI would choose. They would get Economic bonuses, but the new government types I’m describing for human players wouldn’t. But the human player could choose to use the Imperial tree if they choose too.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the matter in how the government and economics could be intertwined to make the game a little more interesting.
