In Galciv II there are two pairs of very similar races, their histories having been intertwined. This shows up in their TA tech trees, which are so similar they might as well be the same. The pairs I'm talking about are:
The Drengin and Korath
The Alatrians and Drath
Now I think that these two pairs could be made much more different than they already are, in order to make playing them against each other more interesting. The point of this thread is to talk about how the races may be made different, primarily about what unique techs you'd like to see for each.
Here are some of my ideas:
Personally I'd like the Drath to play more to their strengths, which seems to be manipulation, if this is the case a tech such as Information Control which gives you access to the Information invasion tactic for free. This would also help to counteract their slow population growth.
Running with this idea the Drath supposedly have good soldiers but not enough men to fight a proper war, so a line of techs involving this would also be useful. One idea I have would be to improve the number of converts from information warfare and/or improving their soldiering quality due to their ferocious presence.
Also for the Drath I think that a change in the Diplomacy path would be most interesting, for example instead of Diplomatic Relations I'd like to see something more like Negotiating Strategy and Manipulation Technique, in other words the Drath increse diplomacy by learning underhanded methods such as bribery and blackmail.
Now the Altarians are a very benevolent culture, the antithesis of the Drengin as it were, so maybe they could have a building that has the secondary effect of increasing influence along with morale, perhaps public gardens and national parks, or perhaps a line of 'Honest Trading' which provides slightly weaker economy buildings, but with extra influence attached.
Now I think the Dregin tech tree is excellent as it is, however I'd like to see a bit more from the Korath. Firstly I'd like to see a bigger play on their Dread Lord Influence, the Dread Lord touch has altered them from standard Drengin into genocidal maniacs, so this could be played up as bounuses for attack and hitpoints. Also they are described as the primary Drengin Shock Troops, so maybe this could show up with extra soldiering techs, or even changing the current 'Shock Troops' tech into 'Korath Beserkers' which is far more powerful and gives a Korath Clan War Centre instead of Tir Quan Training. I would also like for the Spore weapons to be enhanced, for example having three layers, the bottom two of which not only turn a planet toxic but decrease it's quality as well. This would help to balance the ease of the spore ship invasions.
