I
I dunno.
The graphics seemed too retro. The ships looked like they were 2D extruded to 3.
Simple textures on much too basic forms.
The graphics of Genesis Rising seem much better.
And the interface and race graphics?
Too cartoonish.
I doubt I will get it.
It seems to me that since WoW, "cartoonish" has been used to describe any graphical element that one does not like. Something cartoonish is exaggerated, and overwhelmingly colourful. The Sins interface is gray/silver, and high-tech looking. In fact, it's not all that different (in look) than the TA interface.
I also have a problem understanding your opinion that the graphics are ugly. Every time I look at a Sins screenshot, the first thought that goes throught my head is "cool", followed by a "awesome" when I realise that the game engine can handle dozens of these beautiful ships and seamlessly zoom in and out of battles.
I agree that the design is a bit retro, though, especially the TEC ships. But I actually like it.

Anyway, I shouldn't be arguing about flavour. It just annoyed me a bit that you didn't provide any explanation for saying that the game looks bad.
