Want a fun and challenging game? Try this. I am currently having a blast playing this scenario, which I call "Groovy Green Peace." Got ideas for fun and challenging games (set-up, scenario, etc)? post them here.
The setup:
Large galaxy. Abundant- stars, planets, habitable planets, asteroids, etc. Also abundant-races! Use 8 minor races and 9 major ones, including all the evil races (esp. the Yor), the Arcaens, and the Drath. Enable all victory conditions. Game difficulty level "tough", opponent difficulty level "intelligent" (trust me, you will be challenged enough!).
Tech-trading and super events "on."
Victory conditions--what sets this game apart from others--. Enable all victory conditions, but YOU can only win with diplomacy, research, or cultural conquest, and YOU MUST PRESERVE ALL RACES FROM EXTINCTION, and by any means necessary.
Your race: Choose what you want. I am using Torians/pacifist party with extra points in morale, social production, and diplomacy.
Stategy--I dont want to give too much away here, so Ill leave this thread up awhile before I say too much about how my game is going/went. But there are HUGE ramifications for trying to save everyone from everyone. I know what I am trying and what has worked and what hasn't, but I think anyone wanting to try this will most appreciate me not giving away ANY ideas about how to pull this off.
Role-play--You are the champion of the galaxy, and as such you should remember your goodness and your goal as you consider your ethical dilemas and which techs you trade.
Side-note: cultural assimilation does NOT equate to extinction.
It would be WAY COOL if anyone who is inspired to try this would post something about their experiences HERE

. Have fun saving the universe, good guys, and remember, ONLY KILL IN THE NAME OF LOVE.
Yours truly,
Boogly

Wow. Try putting 8 empty Tiny Hulls in the 8 parsecs surrounding 1 planet of each race, for both minor and major races. This prevents that planet from being invaded unless someone's at war with both you and that planet's owner, and should also prevent that planet from launching ships. Build a strong military just in case someone tries to destroy those 'planetary barrier' tiny hulls of yours.
Then you can go conquering all but that one preserved planet of each race. When your influence from conquered planets overcomes that of the preserved planets, then they'll culture flip and you'll win an Influence or even Conquest Victory. Or you can use your strong military and woo everyone into allying with you for a Diplomatic Victory. Or stay on good terms with everyone and research your way to a Technological Victory.
Of course, just putting up those 8 tiny-hulled ships to form a protective barrier around 17 planets, before some belligerent race goes and kills someone, is challenge enough. That's 136 empty tiny hulls you'll be spamming, costing AT LEAST 3400 MP(Life Support and engines will increase costs too if you have to save someone quickly).
In my Arcean DA game a while ago, I had Diplomacy and Influence Victory turned off. Conquest and Technology Victories were on. So I destroyed the Thalans, Drengin and some Minor Races, made allies with everyone else, and then culture flipped them all to win a Conquest Victory. Similar thing in my Altarian game. By flipping a Good/Neutral Ally, you get their planets, their asteroid mines, their galactic resources and even their military ships.
