Military bases broke?

Sometimes my military bases doesn't supply my ships with defense bonuses inside it's sphere of influence. I've seen this happen about 50/50 and it's really annoying. I spend constructors on these military bases only to find out their 1/2 broken. What's the cause of this and how can I fix it or work around it? Thank you.

PS - The bases always seem to supply to weapon bonuses, just not the defenses bonuses.

I remember in galciv1 your ships would have the bonus only after staying in the star bases sector for at least one turn. The next turn you could fly outside the sector and still carry the bonus with you for that turn only.

The starbase sphere of influence was introduced in DL and unlike the original, is supposed to have a real time effect.

Oh speaking of Galciv1, with limitless numbers of terror stars being moved into a sector, your ship bonuses stack up beyond imagine! In one game i played, i had weaponless sensor drones defeating rangers!! fun!

They work, but only if the ships in question have at least one point of defense already. Defenseless ships get nothing.

Ah I see thank you very much. Can I get the defense bonuses if I leave 1 hull of empty space or am I forced to apply some token defense to get my military base defenses?

You need to have at least one actual defense module on the ship in order to get defense assistance. It doesn't matter which kind, or how much (beyond at least one, that is), just so long as it has *some* defense, it'll get the bonus from the starbase.

Aha. And here I had been destroying military starbases on the theory that it would make attacking ships around a planet easier to handle. Hunh.

Is that DA only? I'm sitting here looking at my 4att smalls and they're getting the full 8 points off my four Mil SBs with the first two +1 beam modules on them. Along with the Orbital bonus and my Mil. Resource they are at 15 att. This is on a DL 1.5 game.
