How can a finite ship have infinite resources?

The idea simply adds more needless complexity to the game, as well as being rather stupid in the first place.

When the ship is low on supplies - not, when the ship has low on supplies.
Pretty, not preety.

When a ship is low on supplies, do you send it to a planet or starbase to replenish, or send a supply ship?
You seem to say it both ways.

And why would a supply ship take some 100 years to reach the needy ship, when most games do not even last a small fraction of that time?

Although I like the concept of supplies in games in general, I don't think it's a good
idea for this game.

The concept of supplies adds strategic complexity, because you can't send an unlimited amount of units anywhere. However there is a great risk that it is too much hassle and not fun. That is why in games you never have to send trucks somewhere to get food for your Wehrmacht troops on the eastern front or send supply trains with your Roman legions. If supplies are incorporated, it is mostly in a more symbolic way. I think Galciv II has this implemented in the concept of range and starbases to increase range and I personally don't think it would be more fun if this is expanded.

I do think though that in a game with a more limited scope it is fun. If you have
only one ship or a couple it can be interesting if you have to decide how much food, water, fuel, ammunition, trade goods, spare parts etc. you take with you. Many interesting effects can occur based on your decisions.
