Star Texture

Hello,
Having a slight strangeness with star textures. Seems I get a white box around the stars! I can disable textures and no more box. This happens with both DL and DA. My graphics card is an ATI 1950 Pro. 7.4 Catalyst drivers/Win2K. System Ram 2.5G. Anyone else ever seen this? Not too big a deal, as turning textures off removes the box. This does not happen with any other textures in the game.

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. If this is a DA report, you'll find the debug in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar instead. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Note: If running on Vista with DA 1.6b2 or later, the debug.err is now located in My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar.

Here it is..Something else: when disabling star textures, stars have no colors loading a saved gamed..new games they have colors..

Hmm, you might try updating your video drivers again. ATI's site oddly only shows 6.2 as the latest available for win2000 that I can see, but various download sites seem to have up to 7.5 or 7.7 for 2k. Worth a shot, in any case.

Sorry, 7.4 seems to be latest for 2k..any past that tells me cannot find driver for os/hardware..Oh well..I can try setting up in XP dual-boot, have to reinstall as sig.bin seems to keep a hardware/OS check?? Thought only MS did stuff like that LOL. Anyway..perhaps we can get star colors to show for saved games when not using textures?

Just delete sig.bin and reactivate. It's linked to the windows installation it's made on.


Anyway..perhaps we can get star colors to show for saved games when not using textures?


I'm not sure what would be causing that, the devs would have to look into it.

Meanwhile, you can try renaming/moving the *StarHalo.png images in GalCiv2\Gfx\Stars, since that what it sounds like your system is having trouble with. The game *should* be able to live without them, though.

plays great for many hours.
