I'm perplexed enough to ask the GalCiv community about why I experience a slow down when zoomed out during my movement phase. Frame rates drop to less than 3 when viewing a gigantic map from a very strategic point of view during my movement. All I see are icons, and I would have thought icons eat up less video card than watching the turns zoomed way in (tactically). When I have the ship/colony pop up screen going, my ships chug along at about 1 parsec per second, and it's a very noticeable chug.
Running PentM 2.26 ghz with a 256 meg geforce 7800gtx and 2 gigs of memory with a 7,200 ATA/100 hard drive. Using a relatively new nvidia driver (ver 97.92) for WinXP (SP2). Just trying to provide as much information as possible!
I'm also using the HARDWAREVP switch, beta version 1.6a, and in window mode.
DA planet survey variety is set to 25, follow ship movement is turned off, and here is the beginning of a debug.err:
