reducing planet quality

Is there a way to reduce planet quality in Dread Lords?

For example, I don't want to bother colonizing planets with PQ < 9, but I also don't want the AI to settle on a planet within my border. Is there a way to reduce the PQ of a planet to 0?

Currently, I'm just constantly reinvading with invasion options that reduce PQ until it finally drops to 0, but that also means I'm constantly going to war.

I wish. It's laughably pointless to waste my money on a class 1-2 world but the AI acts like a meth junkie trying to get their fix as they pour colony ships just DESPERATE to grab those damn worlds.

I've noticed that the AI has actually wised up a slight bit on that i.e. in my last game I noticed the AI never colonized a PQ 2 planet, which was something I'd always seen them do before. Maybe it was an isolated event, but worthy of note I thought.

One way to keep the enemy from getting those planets is to use the Small Hull with Colony pod attached, then just put a couple people in it (1 or 2) and colonizing it yourself... while this will still cost you in creating the ship, you won't suffer from the population displacement. Just a thought

Class 1-2 worlds are not the worst planets, they typically terraform very well. IN my current game I've grabbed some class 1 planets that the AI ignored and they become class 16-19 worlds.

Yea that is a very significant barrier against colonisation of poor worlds. So after taking the planet, you could give it away, perhaps to a minor race, and save yourself allot of money.

Maintenance for an Initial Colony building is 12 or 14 BC (depending on the game version). If you don't put in queue anything, it will stay so. But if just drop there some excess pop from food-maxed planets, those tiny planets will soon pay for themself, and you'll have a good base pop after you build Orbital Terraformer and planet instantly goes form class 1-2-3 to 10-19. At least that was what I did in my recent maso game I'm about to win.

I usually go for class 1/2 planets if I have a sizeable budget surplus and have at least researched soil enhancement. Through rush-buying they can become relatively productive class 7s within several turns, and it gets even better with the two other land reclamation researches. Eventually you can get a superior class planet than, say, one that started out class 6, or 12 for that matter.

Just colonize with a tiny amount of peole, then destroy the colony.

I use this tactic to make "fire breaks" between myself and the dreadlords in the campaigns, works like gang busters.

I think most folks are missing the point here. He is asking about GC2:DL, NOT DA. In DL, those trash planets are never going to get very good.

Feud probably has the most efficient idea (#8 above), for DL, from a pragmatic (and, let's face it, EVIL, perspective).

For DA, keep the trash planets, terraform them, and they will be among your best (though short on bonus tiles).

For now, I'm simply using these low quality planets as research labs, and hoping the other planets' economies make up the difference in costs.

Destroying the colony after colonizing or invading still leaves a planet the AI wants to take. At least with my version 1.5

In DL there are no PQ 1-3 planets so the point is moot.

Several Invasion tactics reduce it. Also abandoning the colony thereafter. But IIRC you can't reduce it below PQ 3. Only in DA in can be reduced to 0 with abandoning it.
