Music modding?

Hello,
so I was reading over the "Brief Guide to Modding" and looking through the RaceConfig file thinking about making a mod but I wanted to change the music files for the different races.

Now how do I go about that?

Would I just copy and paste the current music files into my mod and replace them with my own under the same filename? For example if Humans (race 0) use the file Race000.mp3 for their music should I replace it with my own Race000.mp3 in the mods folder?

The problem is there seems to be no file that I have been able to find that determines which music file the race uses. If there is a file that would make things easier but at the moment I can't think of any other way to mod the music files.

This would just be replacing the existing files- I want to know if you can place the music files in the mod folder and if the game will use them or use the original files?

No It wont. They have to be mp3 files too for replacing the orig music.

In the Event music folder there will be music files that say Race00 Race 01 etc.

If you stuck, for example, a file called Race00.mp3 (or whatever it is) in the EventMusic folder in the mod folder, it will be used instead.

Will replacing the music files trip the cheat flag in the Metaverse? Kryo?

No it will not trip the cheat flag. If you're adding a customrace do NOT over-write current music. Just use race12.mp3 and up (since current uploaded custom races already use race10 and race11 ).

Jpinard,
I noticed you mentioned Ascendency in your music section- which was exactly what I was trying to use to make all 21 playable races complete with their appropriate music from the original game.

My I ask how you were able to convert or record the soundtrack from the game?

Jpinard, another question: I am attempting to load your custom race into the game and it refuses to show up after following your instructions. I tried to load it and the race appears with no icon in the load box and attempting to load your custom race results in "failed to load custom race."

I'll attempt to create your race and then edit it (place appropriate pictures/etc. in the raceconfig file) and see how that works!

Nevermind, I tried to edit it with MSWord and that was screwing up the xml files.

Sorry I missed your posts earlier. If you have Ascendancy, there are some utilites than can grab music (if the music files themsevelks are not pottable). Most music files can use any kind of sound converter to get them into mp3 format... and some CD's used Redbook audio (CD music is after track 1 where the data resides). Redbook audio is nice, because you just rip it like a normal CD to your HD.

I use:

Audio Converter
and Wave Studio for cleaning up music/sound files.
