It's something none of us really thought about before. Black and White did it, but most people found that forgettable as a game. Maybe it's in the game already and I'm overlooking it,but now that Supreme Commander has come out and hit it big(rightfully so!), old zoom functions and movement methods almost seem obtuse.
While the click and drag method in GCII is great, and edge scrolling is fine, is there a way to implement a zoom function based off the mouse position? Everyone spends time zoomed out, but just zooming into the target you've clicked on seems outdated now by comparison. Why doesn't the camera simply go where the mouse points?
Certainly there are players who want to zoom out for a quick look and zoom back into whatever they had targetted, so a toggle option for this would be nice for them. But I know I prefer the speed, control, and utter simplicity afforded by the mouse-relative zooming. Spin wheel, move mouse, spin wheel. It just feels more intuitive to me. It only reduces a click or two in reality(as long as there's something in the area), but it's a small thing that feels so much better in the new way.
