DA bug: ships become invisible

On several occasions, one or more ship designs have become invisible as they are constructed. They exist and can be moved, but cannot be seen. Even the icon of them in the list of constructed ships is blank. Each time the design has been of a Constructor type. To make them visible again, I have had to quit the game, restart and reload it.

I frequently get invisible ships, particularly the alien scout ships. The worst is when I get attacked by an invisible ship without getting a chance to do anything about it.

I saw that when I made an upgraded version of the default Thalan Colony ship. Absolutely no 3d model (therefore invisible), but shows up with a colony ship icon on the zoomed out view.

Please post your debug.err files. Thank you.   This file can be found in
c:\program files\stardock\totalgaming\galciv2\darkavatar

You may also want to try reinstalling the game since it sounds like you may be missing model files.

Well, it doesn't surprise me that I'm now unable to replicate the behavior since you asked. I started a new Thalan game and the particular ship design that had this problem is now showing up just fine, and my attempts to replicate the problem have failed. If I see it again I'll be more diligent to collect the evidence.

A bit late perhaps, but I have the same problem with custom ships named the same as a previous custom ship created with a previous version of DA. That sounds a bit confusing, so let me give an example:

In beta-DA I created a class called "Tiny Mk2"

Now in v1.5 if I create a ship named "Tiny Mk2" and overwrite the previous class, I will end up with a ship with no icon. If I now create a ship called "Tiny Mk3" it will have an icon and if I create a new ship called "Tiny Mk3" and overwrite the previous version, it will also have an icon.

But perhaps this is already known since it's an old thread...

After patching the DA game to v1.50x3 most of my opponent's ship have become invisible. Sometimes I see a number or when I hold the mouse above an empty space (were I've lost a ship in the last turn) I can see the popup naming the ship.

What's worse. I can't attack these semi-invisible ships without crashing the game.

Before patching the game to v1.50x3, I couldn't load any savegames so this resorts me into playing in small universes with easy opponents just to be able to finish the game in time and get some metaverse info on my name.

Zoom out far enough so you see the symbol and not the ships themselves. Then you can see where they are. To attack, disable the combat animations in the options. I know it sucks, but at least you can play the game...

I've had this happen when I upgrade the stock constructor. However, after it happened, I designed a new ship with the constructor template and it appears fine. I'll try to post the debug.err tonight.
