GalCiv 2 2006 Awards Round-Up

They like us! They really like us!

2006 was a great year for us, starting out with the release of Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords.  The game received a great deal of critical praise with multiple editors choice awards, and we ended out the year with a good number of Game of the Year nominations and awards.

We were nominated for:

  • 1Up.com - Reader's Choice Strategy Game & Game of the Year
  • GameSpot - Strategy Game of the Year
  • GameSpy - Reader's Choice Strategy Game (Non-RTS) and Game of the Year

... and we won:

  • GameSpy - Turn Based Strategy Game of the Year
  • GameSpy - #6 PC Game of the Year
  • IGNPC - Top Ten Games of 2006
  • UGO - Winner of "Second Best PC Game of 2006"
  • eToychest - Turn Based Strategy Game of the Year

On top of our nominations and awards, we were listed on several holiday gamer gift guides.  Sites such as GamerDad, Gamers Temple, Gaming Nexus, UGO and Yahoo! Games put Gal Civ 2 on their short lists of games to give this past holiday season.

I'm betting 2007 will be even better with the release of Dark Avatar!

Congrats to all of you at Stardock! Everyone there has put in a lot of effort in every stage of this games life, you all deserve the high praise you have recieved. Keep up the great work!

Yes, unlike SOME games. I just hate it when some company shoves out a game and has only two or less patches...Unlike stardock!
(Man stardock made *tons* of patches for Galciv2)

It really grinds my gears when companies make games and put them on the shelves. Especially sloppy editing. I've heard some bad stuff about StarTrek:Legacy(PC). I just hope stardock can expand it's influence and show how good support can make a good game!!!

I've heard some bad stuff about StarTrek:Legacy(PC)



Oh dear God, Legacy for the PC makes me want to kill myself! The only thing that brings me back is the thought of DA in February and the (also Stardock published) Sins of a Solar Empire in August, that and Halo 3, and Halo Wars...etc etc.

Anywho, congratulations Stardock! It happens too often that great games slip under the RADAR (Freespace 2, Deep Fighter, Nexus) and it restores faith in humanity when a game gets the recognition it deserves!

BTW I've seen the top ten lists and, not meaning to lick boot here but, IMO, Galciv2 beats them all.

I just returned from a cool game in the DA beta version, and I can honestly say: you deserve every credit you got, and get.

You did the most amazing work with the diplomacy in this game, something I NEVER saw in a game, and your creativity is truly boundless. You're beyond regular developers. I love you, guys!

Congratulations to the entire GalCiv2 team!

Brad you have said that the sales of GalCiv2 exceeded your most optimistic projections. Score one for quality(product and support) vs. marketing hype! Brad, I hope you gave everyone that contributed to the success of GalCiv2 a nice bonus plus a rest break over the holidays.

From what I understand, for most games sales drop way off 3 months after the release date. Has Stardock seen a spike in orders with all this recent positive online attention? I'm curious as to the pattern of sales of GalCiv2 from the time you began accepting pre-orders to the present and the breakdown of direct downloads vs. retail sales. I understand if you want to keep such data company private.

You know, tons of patches ain't necessarily a good thing. If things need fixing, most probably they weren't made right, correct?
Small developing teams do have a tendency to be more "active" with the player community. I've had a very good experience with such a team, the coders were (are) fantastic. Larkin is now working on the DoW AI, and doing a hell of a job.
