When trying to play "Classic Galaxy", I got to the Select Opponents screen, which showed 5 opponents up top but 6 opponents at the bottom. I was unable to change the opponents at top, so I went on to play the game... it went to the loading screen, blacked out, back to the loading screen, then CTD.
Following are a few notes from my games so far, but first I'd like to say: sorry if these have been discussed elsewhere, and DA has got me playing late into the night again. Thanks, Stardock!
On occasion, my miners on "auto" seem to prefer to move on to extremely distant virgin asteroids rather than improve the field they're currently in. Maybe "Auto" and "Improve" are different modes? Naturally, I'd rather they stay put.
Is it cheesy to offer economic/research treaties to civs that you want to keep off your back? Knowing that they will incur diplomatic penalties if they attack you, it seems like an easy way to hold them off while you deal with a civ of your choice. And of course, I've been able to get a wealth of techs for my treaties, whenever I needed it most. And the only treaty I've ever been able to trade for was from a minor civ... the majors wouldn't give them up for anything.
In tactical view, I've seen quite a few red "imminent defection" dots next to miners, constructors, and planets with low foreign influence.
It seems like I've seen quite a few build times (improvement, ship and tech) that were incorrect.
A couple of props:
I love the use of asteroid mining to speed a buildup of a new colony. Temporary redirections, though lower in value, are strategically interesting. And it reminds me of the ability to use money from the reserve to boost colonies in Master of Orion!
The AI is nice and aggressive. The spies are annoying but manageable. Power Plants rock. I've been hoping for techs and improvements that boosted pop growth, so hooray! I'm sure there's more, but I'll have to play to remember them all.
Happy gaming,
