changing the race in the campaign?

hi first post, I feel so silly but...

Can you change the stats for your race in the campaign? Would like to try it with something different this time around...

I did look at the modding sticky at the top but it didnt make it clear to me if this would change the campaign too.

You get an opportunity to tweak your race's abilities in-game at the start of each mission, just as you would with a stand-alone map. You can also edit the .raceconfig files manually if you like for more extensive changes.
