Random Stars

Is everyone tired of seeing the stars "Andersona", "Iversona", "Westerfield", and "Wardell" over and over again?

I have a solution.

I have written a simple C++ program that will randomize the STARS.txt file. If you run it before starting a new game, you will be treated to different star names than you are used to. I will post this program online in the near future if there is interest.

However, I have noticed that within the STARS.txt file that is included with the game, many stars repeat themselves. For instance, "Andersona" appears in the STARS.txt file three times. As a matter of fact, it looks like most star names appear three times. "Adama" appears only once.

Nope, doesn't bother me a bit -- and you can rename the planets anything you want.

On the other hand don't think I'ld mind more random names either.

that's my 1bc -- not even worth 2bc

although you will see a larger set of names with a larger map, I'd still like to see perhaps real star names replacing most of those currently in the game. Just for fun of course

Actually not a bad idea -- they could add a star/planet name type option at the game start -- some ideas -- Sport hereos, Golf Courses, Cities, Stars(real), Comic Heroes, Film Stars, Hurricanes, etc ... )

Maybe even have a tooltip with a description that pops up when mouse is placed over the star.

Pretty easy to implement and would add some variety flavor to the game, especially for those who play a lot of games.

Been thinking about this a little more.

Think it would be great if Stardock would let players submit their own Star name lists with descriptions.

They could then add that list as a star names option whenever they do a game update.

It would be a way for players to have their personal content added to the main game(not just a mod).

And I would enjoy picking different type of star names and reading the descriptions while playing. Might even learn something.

The final debugged version of the "Star Mixer" is ready to go. It is an .exe file. Is there any prohibition to posting those here?

If it would make Stardock less worried, I can forward them the C++ source code to show there is nothing shady about the program.

Also the program features a solicitation for donations, is that a problem?
