Custom Race Fairness

In the next patch, can you guys make the custom race creation thing fair please? All the core races get 10 ability points AND preset advantages, which means they are alyways more powerfull. How sucky is that? If humans can start off with +25 diplomacy, their other bonus, and 10 ability points to spend why can't my custom race do the same?

The custom race gets free Loyalty+20 and Soldering+25 bonuses, in addition to the 10 points worth of picks.

Yeah, Customs actually get a pretty good deal. Arceans and Iconians get NOTHING, Drath and Yor get sheer awesomeness, and everyone else falls about in the middle, but the Customs are my third favorite after Drath and Yor. That soldiering is dang nice and I get to start with Planetary Improvements, albeit not much else.

Edit: Now bringing all the races about into line with the Drath and Yor, THAT would be hot.

Ahh, I noticed the +25 soldiering and +20 loyalty sometimes, but sometimes they also dissapear. Say you don't want those bonuses eh? How is it a custom race if your forced to have those bonuses? I just want an option to choose my own bonuses thank you very much.

So you don't want free (and very handy) bonuses?

Racial abilities do sometimes disappear if they are a non-selectable value for an attribute you can and do pick (stacking doesn't work). AFAIK this is a bug.

I agree. It'd be better if the Customs just got no bonuses and started with 13 points instead of ten. Of course, it'd also be better if all the races were brought up to the usefulness of the Drath and Yor, but meh.
AFAIK this is a bug.
That it removes your base bonus is probably a bug, but it makes sense that you can't stack. You could do some abusive things if you could stack. For example, adding another 30 soldiering to Customs and taking war party, with decent population growth, would basically make you un-invadable once you researched the soldiering techs. Or, Drath could have 110% defense bonuses... you get the point.

Or, before you start using your points, you can select your 2 'custom race bonuses' which would then act like the +25 soldiering and +20 loyalty that are forced upon you, but wouldn't cost points. I say this is better than the 13 point idea because the 2 base bonuses are better than you could buy with 3 extra points.

The Torians IMO always seem to have the solid amount of bonuses. Almost every game I play with the Torian Confederation they always seem to become the dominant power, no matter the difficulty they gain the highest influence, they get the most planets during the colony rush phase etc. Another thing about other races is their starting political party, I doubt the Drengin Empire would be led by a pack of federalists.

Huh, Torians always get their arse kicked in my games. Overall though it seems from this post that people think the Yor are the best/overpowered. Regardless, I want 3-4 extra ability points when playing a custom race. I rarely play for war, so what good does soldiering and loyalty get me?

If the Yor or Dregnin are not present then I find the Torians do great because they have the time needed to get ahead in research before they are attacked.

That's just the default for the player on all races. The AI can and does pick its own.

Odd, the Torians slaughter everyone in my games, regardless of circumstances.

Yor and Drath are best for human players, by far (well, Torians are okay, I guess). My experience is that the Arceans are the best AI players, which is odd since they're arguably the worst (by far) for humans.

The Torians seem to do well in my games only when I am keeping them away from or providing ships, money and tecnical support to help in the flailing war (yes I mean flailing) with the Yor or the Drengin. Most of the time, this keeps them afloat long enough for me to get my kittens all playing nicely and spanking some booty right after they fall on the lizard like tails.

Is there any wonder why that race of lizards in EE Doc Smiths books only produced 1 second stage lensman? Fast and furious, but no stamina. That sounds like the Torians in my battles.

I notice the Arceans occasionally do well, but it's hard to say because AI players sometimes have a good start. One time I saw the Arceans start with a 700% research bonus tile, a 100% research and a 300% production bonus tile!

The Torians also do well, particularly when they have access to a lot of colonies, and grow quickly with aprohadic. In my games they seem to be the most aggressive in expansion with tons of influence thanks to population growth.

The Drengin occasionally do well too, but not as much compared to in the past.

I have never seen the Terran aliance dominate, they just keep to themselves in a corner.

Lets see, with a few facts we shall shed light on the situation.

1.This in a way is good, you start with lower abilities so you can define yourself.

2.This makes the game more challenging.

3.Pwning the A.I with 100+ soldering isn't fun.

4.A custom race has less authority then a already established race.

5. In some situations this is unfair.

Explanation:The best qualitys and worst qualitys are seen by not all people, there is no answer or explanation except for it depends on your opinion.

Evalution:Diffrent people view diffrent qualitys diffrently, there is no side that can possibly be right or wrong. I conclude that this arguement and discussion is beneficial becuase of its teachings.
