I think any multi player game of Galciv2 would be a disaster. Kiddie you are playing in Nebraska or wherevere will reaslise 20 minutes into the game that you have an edge and dissconnect. Waste of friggin time.

I never understood wanting a TBS game to be multiplayer. The gameplay is uniquely unsuited for multiplayer IMHO.

Wrong, its uniquely SUITED for multiplayer. Turn based strategy has the most devoted mutliplayer fanbase, by devoted i mean they will play a game for MONTHS.

The thing is its not suited for 14 year old kiddies wanting fast quick games. You have to get groups together and MANY MANY people do this. Having a "hotseat" game at a house is also incredibly popular, its one of the things that kept MOO2 popular for as long as it was. The game wouldn't of lived as long without its multiplayer options.

You dont play multiplayer with those people!! HOW HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND!? With turn based games you do multiplayer with your FRIENDS!!! Do you have friends? You get together at certain times, do turns until they dont want to play, save the game, and continue later, repeat.

You people are the most ill informed people on the planet, you obviously know literally nothing about online gaming, especially with turn based strategy. Unfortunately the people that know LITERALLY the least are always the ones listened to. Their is a whole market based on online turn based strategy games, and why PBEM (one type of online gameplay with this) was included in Master of Orion 3 AND Civilization.

That's kind of like complaining "Unable to name an auto save." The point of quick saving is that you can hit Ctrl-S and not have to pop a dialog or type a name. It's awesome, awesome feature.

I'm betting that you are the one that has more problems with friends based on the attitude shown here. Calm down and don't assume you know everything. People like different things and just because you like it does not mean others do. The polls have been pretty conclusive up to now, more people do not want multiplayer.

Your points may be valid, but the presentation needs a wee bit more work.

hehehe I meant blind exploration... Though come to think of it Blind research would be an interesting option. Your Research centers would pick at random different techs instead of rushing through the line. This would mean that the other races as well would be in the same situation. Each unresearched tech would have a number assigned to it. This number would change as the techs are discovered. The only thing that you would control is the funding going in. You still would have faster techs and slower techs due to the time involved and the amounts required. But you would never know which new surprise would be awaiting you until you've finished a Tech. I would love to see something like this implemented as an option.

It's not that the "non-multiplayer crowd" think that having a multiplayer mode will harm the game directly, it's that (as has been stated and restated by Stardock) the developers' time will be taken up by either developing that or other features. So those not wanting multiplayer are just hoping that the development time is spent on other things. The disadvantage to those players is that they get a feature that they're not interested in rather then several features that they might want.

Why do people not want a multiplayer mode ?

Because I care nothing for it and adding it will either be part of an expansion that I pay for to get other features and be stuck paying for multiplayer as well or will take time away from the developers that could be used to add features/bug fixes that I do want.

PErsonally I've tried to see GalCivII in the same light as Starcraft.

Between good players blizzards battlenet games can go on for hours....and there's no planetmanagement, only slight resource micromanagement.

In this game you have to manage not only your tech tree but your military and social production. Games could take days if not weeks between half a dozen players....

While I agree multiplayer might be interesting I look at the complexity of the game and realize for this one it's just not feasible. Cost aside, work aside, the gameplay simply does not lend itself to online play vs anyone else. It's doible...but better be ready to give up your Evercrack addiction to complete ONE game of this online...
