Any point at all in Technological Victory?

Was looking for a quick win, but soon realised the cost of laziness...

Last game i was playing Large map as the Korx... quickly i out paced all other civs after a quick invasion and was free to pursue whichever victory path i chose (perhaps except political, i was evil and everyone else bar the Yor were good)...

Having not experianced the sweet taste of Immortality i chose a the Technological victory (i was also short on the time to conquer the galaxy, although my military was almost as big as every other civs combined.)

very disapointed with the score...

whats the point? i mean it seems to me that the scoring system really doesnt take into consideration at all a technological victory.. i mean it was easy as well , but i know i wont go for that kinda win again especially in a metaverse game...

in expansion to the above i should also say that it was VERY easy... i would have thought the AI should recognise a player close to or on the path to tech victory and all gank.. i would have definitely been forced to change tactics if all or even a couple of civs had declared on me...

I don't mind it the way it is. If you're isolated or left alone, you can win without having to kill everyone. People shouldn't go nuts if you're about to win - 'winning' doesn't mean everyone else 'loses', it just means the game ends. All the people in the other civs aren't instantly keeling over dead or anything. Unless its the 'kill everyone' or even the 'influence' victory, where you're winning by taking things away from other people.

id say a race that is almost about to become immortal and beings of energy (ie gods) would be a massive cause for concern from every single race in the universe... such a race would very quickly dominate the universe which is why its a victory after all.. it just feels like their is no real challange to a tech victory and metaverse scoring i guess reflects it...

Yeah, because there'd be no limits to their power and they wouldn't just bugger off like they always do in scifi? Really, it'd be grab-the-empty-planets time!

I've found it very hard to get the required security to focus on research - and really, ifyou can do that, you've won anyway. I find conquest victories terribly boring, because it quickly becomes clear if you're going to win or not... but you've still got to cap all their planets... and it drags on forever.

Don't MV scores differentiate between victory types?

A diplomatic victory that I achieved in beta4 was my highest scoring game. And my lowest scoring game was my technological victory that was the first patch, before 1.1 . Some times I guess its all you have left. It takes a while to get it though, and it is easy.

Does anyone have any links as to what the devs had in mind with the difficulty of each victory, and the scoring that goes along with it? That would be a cool read.

All of the victory conditions are slow and drawn-out, that's just the way tbs games are.

It would seem to me that the AI should be alerted to the fact that you are ahead of them and on the path to victory by a Technology win, and if you are behind(outclassed) them in an area they could use to stop you, they should. The AI should want to win and from what I have seen so far in my few games, I think they do try in most cases. Perhaps this is a problem/bug with the Technology part of the tech tree only?

I agree with the person above, and that the civs should be alerted and then maybe they should threaten you. LIke if you continue your path we will be forced to attack, and then if changed there should be more points for a technological victory.

I think the people posting here are really dancing around one of the key contrasts between the human and AI player. We are all trying to win the game somehow, but the AI players aren't. The AI player simply reacts to the situation that is presented to them, sure sometimes they go to war, but its not like they have a grand strategy. I think it would be more interesting if the AI would attempt to win the game somehow, or at least attempt to prevent you from winning.

Isn't there some option for an alien tech victory where the AI will try to reach the tech victory before you and keep you from it?

OMG! The Yor are all energy beings and stuff and now they're going around floating inside my Presidential Galactic Bedroom Suite when I'm trying to get it on with the Royal Ladybeing. I mean, gross! Who wants energy beings flying around when you're trying to get it on? I give up. Fine, Yor. You can watch. Enjoy your technological victory, you perverted blobs of god-like energy!

I just played a game where the Terrans had just researched Beyond Mortality and had just begun reasearching Technological victory. I traded a high level weapons technology to the Terrans for the Beyond Mortality tech and then cranked my research sky high. I ended up winning, but it really shouldn't have happened. I'd think that the computer players should be smart enough to see that coming and prevent it from happening.

I think it might be interesting to code in an AI alert when you reach the tech level just before tech victory. Make them get seriously pissed off so that it would be very difficult to placate them.

This would definately make a technology victory much harder.

Personally, i never leave tech victory active - problem solved!
