AI needs troop research??

I'm currently trouncing the AI on like crippling (or something close), part of it is because, after they declared war on me (I had no military), I just switched research to troop techs, giving me advantage 9 to their 1.... except my crap planets they couldnt touch me. I then was able to research counter techs and build up an uber fleet... is it only the human and Korx AI's that dont give priority to soldier techs? w/o Planetary bombardment a la Moo3 then thats a pretty important tech....

Thoughts?

Very few, if any, go for the advanced troops. I always have shock troops and the Tri-Quan before I attack a planet.
My troop rating is usually in the 120-130 range, while theirs is around 30-50.
Talk about a slaughter. I just had 2,000 troops wipe out 19,000 in my last game.

are you sure youre playing on crippling ? while its true that ai dont reasearch the soldiering techs i just got invaded by a torian troop transport with 6000 in my current game love the new AI

That was a fleet of transports, not just one.

I use fleets usually, too. Much easier than sending them in one at a time.
Well, usually it is 10 or so transports fleeted up with 4 or 5 of my best ships for protection.

And no, it was not crippling, just painful.

Well, all AIs research soldiering technologies eventually. It's just so that some of them got a low AI priority so they usually research it just quite late into a game.
