Cannot Start New Game

Only since Beta-4 was installed

Hello. This is my first major bug since owning this game (Been lucky huh?), and as it happens, it's a major one. I recently upgraded to Beta-4, and found that I couldn't start a new game. At all. Or restore an old one. Now, I looked around for solutions, and I tried deleting my old save games, as I found worked for somebody else. This did work temporarily, but it crashed soon into the game anyway. So anyway, I need help. I upgraded my video drivers when this started happening, and it didn't help, so should I post my Debug.err?

Just to note I have the exact same problem. Beta 4 worked fine, but ever since I installed Beta 4a yesterday evening, it crashes every time I try to start a game (thru the metaverse, at least)

If you are experiencing a crash at the start of the game, please post your debug.err file.

This file can be found in your galciv2 folder. Usually C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Galciv2

That's funny. Last night I was crashing when starting a new game, every time. So I rolled back to the .016 version and it played fine again. So just now I reinstalled the .017 backup so I could get the error message posted, and the game loaded just fine. Both a new game with my custom race and a save game from .016 version.

I will select the races, hit next, the loading screen starts to come up, and the game crashes after about two seconds.

That message stoofd out to me because I do have .shipclass files in that folder.
And some of us have been wondering what has happened to the pirates. I do not ever see them anymore. Could this be it?

Has the ImpossibleTech been taken out of the later beta's?


I tried this with my current custom race config file, which had a bunch of stuff added. So I deleted all the files the the My Games\GalCiv2 folder except for the .ini file to get a fresh start. No change, still crashed.

Next I tried deleting all the ships out of the ships folder, as well as any other file I had in like logos.

It started normally.

I added back in my Currentcustomrace10.raceconfig file, and it started normally.

I added the ships back into the ships folder and the game crashed on loading.

The ships I added were the Klingon set I downloaded from this site. And I have used them many times without a problem. But, the last time this happened I had different ships in there. I just swapped out for the Klingon set today. But earlier when it started it had the same set of ships in there that it had when I played earlier.


Then back to version .016 and all works fine again.
