Starbase // Attack // Ship Assist

not available in upgrading with constructors?

I can get ship assist +1 attack and it works fine.

I continue to research technologies and think I should have some more ship assists available. For example, I have researched "projection". Yet, when I bring in more constructors, I do not have any more ship assist (attack) options. What gives?

Do I have to build some prerequesite modules before I can get higher level of assists?

I am in big war with Drengin on TOUGH level right now, so of course I have no opportunity to experiment!!! Help ASAP---10Q!

I think the additional attack assist modules come from new weapons techs, but I'm not sure. . . Check weapons further along in the tech tree to see if they make new starbase modules available. I'm in Linux right now, so I can't check myself. . .

What sprt of Starbase? I know it sounds odd, but military resources have no projection. Just random built military have projection.

Uhmm... I don't remember exactly what the dependencies are. Try building Battle Stations if you haven't. They are requirements for some military modules. Also, I tend to confuse the Starbase Fortification and Starbase Defense branches. According to the third party(?) Galactopedia program, you can start adding them as soon as you research Starbase Defense, and Battle Stations aren't necessary. Some of them may be unlocked by racing up the weapons and armor branches, but if assists are your priority, take the Starbase Defense/Mobilization branch. You say you've already researched military projection? In that case I'm not certain what the problem is.

However, make sure you're trying to build those modules on a military starbase. The economic, influence, and mining types only support starbase defense and attack, not ship assist and ship defense.

P.S. Did you trade for, steal, or conquer the Starbase Projection tech, or any of the techs along that branch leading up to it?

IIRC: Most of the assist modules in the "mobilization" tech line require battle stations Mk 1. All the misc assist modules in the weapon lines (i.e. the mass driver snipers) require nothing except any previous modules in the same line. So build battle stations and see if they start appearing.

Of course, they only work on military bases, but if you already built a ship assist module you must be dealing with a military base already.

Pages 43 through 45 in the manual tell you exactly what techs are required to build the various starbase modules.

Thanks, all. I have learned from your feedback that the starbase modules I seek are along the research lines of the weapons (i.e., lasers, missiles, and mass drivers).

Battle against Dregin is going well. I brought in 7 constructors and built a military starbase to cover three of their planets with ship attack and defense assists. As a result, their planets became my planets in 1 turn of fighting, although the Dregin took one back temporarily with an out-of-the-blue troop module showing up.

I guess the new AI will make engines. All of my ships are moving around at 7 or 9 parsecs per turn while the AI is still at 2 to 4 parsecs per turn.
