Ok, first a complement: the new patch gives the AI much faster ships and now theyre much more challenging tactical. Good job stardock.
now on to the (Relatively minor) pain:
- When you load a saved game, something always happens. Generally this means peace is declared between warring civs. Its wierd, because it almost always happens, on to three civs will declare peace or something or the other. This can be a major pain if you do an elaborate set up to get multiple civs to declare war on someone, do something stupid a couple turns down the road, load a save and bang, two of the civs you payed off declare peace.
-The AI is giving way to many bases as ships to help you out during war. Dont get me wrong, I love it when the AI gives me two resource mines for my war effort but: this cripples that civ when a fully developed resource mine is given away. Worse, sometimes it'll give me an economic starbase around its planets just because it has some minor defenses on it. This not only does nothing to help me, but it hurts the AI significantly.
-I havent been able to figure out what causes this, but sometimes ships dont get there moves back at the beginning of your turn. This has caused me to loose a lot of vulnerable ships, starbases, fleets and transports. They just start the turn with 0 moves.
- Some ships come out of planets after theyre repairing with more hps than their max like 12/11 etc...
-Sometimes ships will simply not group together as fleets. Its wierd you put them together, select them all, click create fleet but they wont merge, one will just stay out and not join the fleet. Worse when this happens, that ship wont join any fleet. Ive tried moving the ship to another fleet or disbanding fleets and putting them back together with the 'loner' ship, but it wont join. Especially frustrating with transports when your invading.
-minor civs are still spamming influence starbases everywhere. These dont help them at all and drain their resources.
Suggestion
-the AI should evaulate its war fighting on a grand scale better. Examples: the AI tends to look at the overall comparisons between civs and not how the war is actually going. So if Im fighting the Yor, and they have a military thats 140-80 on me they wont even think about peace even though I've taken 3 of their planets and have a kill ration of 8:1 on there ships. Also it should prioritize threats better. In my current game I've invaded Arcean space and taken a system with two planets that gives me the logistic capability to hit them everywhere. The Arcean navy is 3x as powerfull as mine. Are they attacking me?No. My long range sensor ships are picking dozens of arcean fleets headed to... the Torians. Sure the torians are a weaker civ overall, but shouldnt the arceans be like panicking and flooding me with fleets that could crush my relatively small forces that are invading their homeland? Im just sayin...
Great job overall guys, new patch finally makes the AI competitive at intelligent.
