mutual trade route defense pact

i would that stardock implement as soon as this diplomacy option. it's very easy to understand that if a race (drengin) is in war with another race (torians) and attacks a freighter direct to a planet of (humans), it's not only an act of war against torians but it is too an attack against humans. i would that this dipolmacy option will be implemented as soon as.

My understanding is that they're only attacking that specific race's freighters, not Terran freighters. So if the Terrans have a route, those freighters aren't touched. But Torian freighters are fair game. I think this will affect the Torians when the freighters to Terran Alliance are attacked more than it affects the Terrans themselves. Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this?

It's only an act of war against the humans if they own the freighter that's attacked. If the freighter's Torian, the Drengin are interfering with your trade (you can't buy goods that never arrive), but they're not destroying any human ships or killing human civilians.

on the long run if too much trade routes are destroyed it could hamper your trade wih this race from what i understood.
it's very interesting to implent this diplomacy option because diplomacy will surely become more complex and interesting, but the trade will be a lot streamlined. anyway in history casus belli is not only invoked when there is a military attack, but also when trade or economy are in danger.
after all it shouldn't be so much hard to implement that treaty considering that it should function at the same way of a mutual defense pact except for the fact that it can be invoked when freighters of one of the two civilizations which signed the pact are under attack

That's already built into an alliance, though. If the Terrans and Torians are allied, and a Torian freighter is attacked (no matter where it's going) the Torian is going to declare war with the attacker. Per the terms of the alliance, the Terrans will be required to join the war (unless this has been changed in GalCiv 2).

It's indeed changed to a defensive only pact. But, if a torian ship is being "attacked" - then that means someone declared war with em, and that'll kick in the alliance.

It's indeed changed to a defensive only pact.


Has this change been implemented since the last beta (ie in the gama version)? Because I still can't get away from wars in my current game (there are 2 alliances and me, Iif I make peace with 2 out of 3, the next turn or so those 2 will attack me again, and so on).

i haven'tspoken about a mutual defense pact i would want the introduction of a MUTUAL TRADE ROUTE DEFENSE PACT. this pact is active only when the freighter of one of the 2 signataries go under attack. this pact could be signed by 2 races only if they were in very good relations and have a lot of trade routes between them. this pact could be invoked only if freighters are attacked so it isn't a mutual defense pact. there would be some improvement in diplomacy and game:
- diplomacy become more complex because u not only have treaty of defense or treaty of friendship but also specific treaties to protect ur trade routes; imagine with 10 major races and 25 minor races how diplomacy would be improved and realistic
-trade would be a lot streamlined because it would become not only an economic factor but also a diplomatic factor
- introduction of a great merchant style of play

Sorry, but I still don't see the usefulness of programming in a treaty that only applies to shared trade routes. If you're close enough to another race for that sort of treaty, you might as well go for a full alliance. If a war breaks out, one of those freighters is eventually going to get destroyed, so you're going to get dragged into the war regardless (although a little later than with a full alliance, and perhaps too late for you to be of any help). Or this whole war goes on under your nose until your trade partner's annihilated, and you lose all their trade routes at once.

If you don't want to have a full alliance with another race, than you're better off without the trade pact, anyway. You're notified whenever any route you receive income from is lost. If you're in a trade pact, you are then forced to join this war. If you're not in this pact, you can still join the war, but now you can do it through the diplomacy screen and possibly get some cash or tech from the race you're aiding out of the bargain.

in my opinion this pact adds a lot to gameplay.first of all u choose to sign a mutual defense trade route pact so u weigh if this pact is convenient or not.secondly it adds complexity to diplomacy because relations are not only marked by treaty of alliance or friendship but also special relations based on trade; in a game with all major races and minor races selected it's very cool.in your reasoning u don't take in account that other races which sign this pact have to declare war if ur trade routes are attacked, so if u are a weak military race u can drag other races in your defense without signing a mutual defense pact.don't underestimate the fact that it could be possible to play as the galaxy great merchant while weak militarly. clearly this pact should be a lot harder to obtain than a mutual defense pact
