A number of players (myself included) use planets for specific purposes - Manufacturing planet, Research planet, Economic planet, Low Quality planet, etc. For most planets, I queue in the following right at the start: 1 Shipyard, 3 Factories, 1 Market Center, 1 Farm. I play as a technocrat so I don't need to put Research into the original queue. The second queue is when the planets start to specialize. Often the planet's specialty will be dete

I go into a game with no preconceived ideas about how the game will end. Events in the game will determine that. Factors that can influence victory strategy may include: How many resources you can find, mine, & hold. What kind of Race abilities you have given yourself. What races you are playing against (and your degree of difficulty). The quantity & quality of your colonies (including bonus tiles). Your location in the gala

Many "Features" are undocumented in this game. For many of the subtle icons I recommend that you click on them to see what they do. Regarding your questions... 1. I too have wondered what these planets do. I suspect that they have something to do with terraforming. 2. Exactly what "list" are you talking about? Clicking on a planet or ship on the Planet/Ship screen will scroll the screen to the selected item. In the Civilization Man
considering that everyone does a little bit of colony rushing at the start, is it more about which planets you get
There is another "Colony Rush" that I don't think many people are aware of. In the second half of a game (after you've developed some extreme terraforming skills) you can bring up the "Planets & Ships" screen and select the uncolonized planets tab. You should see many Class 1 planets (especially ones that have a terraforming icon) that no one really

Experience is the best teacher. As you play games, your style of play will encounter difficulties. The Race Abilities you choose can help to mitigate those difficulties. For example [Harsh Environments]: These planets cannot be colonized by any races right away (unless they have a super ability). This allows you to eventually colonize planets that you would not otherwise be able to. This is a great design feature that keeps the game from being just a huge land grab at the sta
Suddenly my scouts are moving 3 spaces a turn, despite the fact that they used to move two spaces and their design says 2 spaces. Why is that?
This occurs after you develop Impulse Drive.
I really don't get the economy yet. I gather all my income comes from population, right?
Actually not. You can see your finances by clicking on the finance button at the bottom of the main screen (3rd button from the left - the triangular shaped butto

I have a standard template for each Hull size of ship - and have given them names... Tiny....Corvette Small...Sloop Medium..Frigate Large...Destroyer Huge....Cruiser Cargo...Civilian After I've added the "Bling", I saved it as "Corvette Template", "Sloop Template", etc. Regarding naming conventions, I do this. Say I'm attacking with missiles and defending against Beam. I might call a sloop "Sloop Lancer". Now, when I graduate to Frigates (against the
The technocrats are nearly worthless: If I want more science I build another lab. Tiles is never ever (not even on tiny maps) an issue - but money is - even if you go for tech rush victories.
I have played the Technocrats with much success. Creating just 1 or 2 "Research" planets just about takes care of all your research needs. That frees your tiles to be used for Manufacturing, Economy, Happiness, or Influence. Having a lead in research also provides two other ben
One thing I HATE so far... is that JUST because I'm playing with an Evil race... it seems to me that the other AIs (doesn't matter what race they are) will hate me NO matter what I DO!!
I was playing as a customized race and made just a few evil choices on the ethics questions that occasionally pop up. The Yor took a great liking to me ("We evil civs should stick together") and became a valuable ally.

Great Idea. Nice to think outside the box and realize that every coin has two sides, and there may be more than one way to achieve an objective. Ambermonk
