Those differences you are describing are no longer the case. In fact, AMD X2 dual cores perform better than Intel dual core processors. Athlon 64s offer better gaming performance and run cooler and use less power. If your machine is 'bogging down' on large galaxies it is simply an issue of computer speed. I am attempting to export a 3ds max model into the game. The problem is that although I export it as a *.X and convert the textures to *.PNG the model will not show up in game. I too would love to see larger map sizes. If the only side effect is a massive slowdown on more antiquated machines, then so be it! Let those with powerful computers enjoy the larger maps, and those without can either play them and experience a significant amount of lag, or just ignore them.

Although I do like Galciv2, one aspect that seems to have been overlooked is the random morality based events and the quarterly reports.
