Heh, I was thinking the same thing PopeBucky. But if that were the case, shouldn't he be telling us everything in both French AND English? ;)

Certainly bluethirtytwo, your point being that industrialization does reduce the total number of "jobs" within a closed system... this is really the definition of improving efficiency; less man-hours to produce a given product. But I think the key here is the point that this is never a bad thing for the system as a whole. Individuals lose their jobs and need to find new employment, but everyone benefits from the cheaper products. ($1 new release video rentals in the original example... multip

Heh, I am amused by the image of Rulerdude sitting at his computer for 16 minutes, anxiously awaiting someone to reply to his suggestion... I will rise to the bait. I think they are better as a non-playable game element, simply because of their place in the GalCiv setting that Brad has created; ie: that they are an ancient race that is far more advanced than any of the current races out there. If they returned in force, they would effectively wipe everyone else out. Who know

Yikes, that a few nitpicker's could elicit three responses from Frogboy himself on this issue conveys the twisted power of the forum... Regarding the criticisms of how easy or cheap it would be to update the descriptions, I think the $1,500 figure being bandied about is pretty unrealistic. I would point out all the typos and incorrect grammar used above in the very threads doing the complaining. (Kind of a cheap shot, I know. I can't expect LightVader to be proofing his posts, but sti

Nobody else suggested this, so I may be totally the mark (I have been getting confused about how the attack / defense are being crunched since the recent changes involving individual weapon attack being processed seperately, etc). But your example has your three ships EACH with only 3 missile attack and 6 beam defense going against 2 Thalan ships each with something like 13 Beam attack and 9 Beam defense... maybe their defense is enough to stop your individual ships attack of 3? Are t

I would like to make the positive case for how espionage has been set up for DA. A lot of complaining about a lot of game elements as "not being realistic", like having spies detected immediately upon placement, need to be seen in the context of gameplay simplicity and balance issues. The developers COULD have chosen to use more complex systems calculating odds of spy detection based on espionage and counter-espionage tech levels or whatever, but would that enhance gameplay? If you ha

This leads me to ask about something I was hoping they would add at some point in GC2. In GC1, couldn't you select to randomize the personalities of the races, not just their intelligence levels... or am I confused? Kind of fun to not know how a race will generally behave as soon as you meet them... but that is not available in GC2 is it?

Lots of complaining about the speed limit event out here on the forums, and generally I agree. That being said, I happen to be in a large slow game right now where the Drengin were running roughshod all over the galaxy, and this speed limit event has helped give me some breathing room to react and set up my defenses since they just added me to the hit list, so I don't know... like all the events it throws variety into the mix of strategic considerations (although obviously in most game

Sure, find a copy of MOO2 somewhere and fire that bad ride up. Do NOT get confused with Master of Orion 3 though... Although I played a few games of it, most people considered it pretty unsatisfying... MOO2 is superior. As long as you're trolling for old school games, load up 'Zork' while your at it... But don't eat the chili-pepper sandwich, you need it for the Cyclops!

Fun thread. I have bounced around with various naming conventions, but tend to go with General Pant's on using the USN prefixes to define the general class, (ie: DD Manta, CA Odessa, etc.) The other common thing I find myself doing is defining upgraded ships, especially non-combat ships, by their speed, since it is handy to know at a glance (ie: "Transport 6" defines it as having speed of 6...) I also enjoy specifically re-naming particular ships with individual names, but it

Yeah, I fondly remember range limits seeming to be more of a factor in the original "Master of Orion", with longer delays encountering races across the map and more opportunity to create defensive "choke-point" worlds. One caveat though, I have not actually gotten to run a gigantic map in GCII since my old computer starts to chug above large... that likely makes a big difference. I will need to experiment with some of the changes Entropy Avatar suggests. It is obviously a difficult bal

Yeah, when you create a ship design, it is saved, and will appear in future games, unless you delete it. That is why you have a distinction between "obsolete" and "delete" in the shipyard screen. Obsolete removes the design from your current game, while delete should get rid of it completely(?). Thus, the game does not allow you to delete "core" ship designs, only obsolete them. I know I have spent lots of time creating wierd ships, so it is nice to have them saved and available

They always give either 2 corvettes or one ranger. These events usually happen to the race with a weak military. I think the first or second game I played, I took lucky as a race trait, and I got the "found Ranger" event five times... (I tend to focus on the economy and have a spectacularly weak military)... so those Rangers pretty muc
