What does the asterisk mean that precedes some technologies for trading in the diplomacy screen and what implications does it have for tech trading? I think i have erroneously assumed that these can be traded for cash, but are subsequently unusable by the recipient. In other words i have been using the cash from these techs to support my economy in the hope that they will not benefit races that purchase them.</spa

I have this problem as well. I tend to give ships to races struggling against a more powerful rival. Some times the ships just sit next to one of my planets with no movements points...other times they scuttle happily off across the galaxy to the other race's homeworld. It gets to the point that I'm so irritated by the'r presence that I blow them up!
