The Thalan research building actually does far more research than is indicated. I have no idea how much, but when I upgraded from level 2 to 3, my research went up by a sizeable chunk (the planet had a tech capital, and I had research starbases and played as technologists, so I couldn't easily calculate how much research the building itself generated). Given its description in the tech readout, I assume the report of 12rp is just a typo. Also, for why they keep up so well in research,

I like TA for the most part, but one thing that really bugs me is how much unique technology can be traded. The Yor have some excellent soldering techs that can turn the biggest pansies into a dangerous enemy on the ground. The iconians have this excellent +50% econ bonus building that seems really overpowered in others' hands. The Drengin and Korath can certainly share their insights as slavers, but how does Pain Amplification make sense in the hands of the Altarians? And the poor Arceans s
* TOURISM! I don't know for a fact, but tourism appears to be totally broken. I'm playing as the Thalan, my influence is either tied for first or else very close to it. But my tourism income is only 39BC a turn. I may be way off here, but that seems exceptionally low compared to prior betas. It's a large galaxy with 7 races left (including mine), and everybody seems to have around 5 planets on average. With tourism this low, the new maintenance on ships is killing me. an
lecek: I just noticed that all ship maintenance went WAY up, so maybe that's part of your problem? As the Thalan I had been struggling just to keep up in tech (as I mentioned it seems like everybody's trading unique techs like mad, so everybody's bonuses are insane). Until just a bit ago I hadn't built any really strong ships. Now my econ is doomed - 6 tough medium ships are costing me around 300BC / turn - that's a huge chunk of my total income (around 20-30%), even though my populati
Odd. Since I got GC2:DA I have gone bankrupt pretty much every game at least a few times. I just sort of assumed that was the style you had to accept. (By bankrupt I mean my credits were below 0 and I had to change my econ to get out of it) With beta 4 I have only played the Thalans, so I can't speak about the Terrans, but I've found the economy not to feel particularly different than other TA betas. However, the maintenance on non-combat ships could be your problem if you didn't pa
Mind Control Centers are still broken. STILL!
I think it's better for SD if we limit this thread to TA-specific bugs. --- I double-checked the level 3 manufacturing facility for the Thalans, and they don't give any boost over the level 2 structure (this makes sense, as the structure is already as powerful as the industrial sector, and level 3 merely gets the price down to normal). So only
This is more a typo than a bug, but the Thalan level 3 research structure (and probably the manufacturing structure, but I didn't pay attention) really disappointed me at first - the cost going down was nice, but all that research to get a tech that just saves a little money seemed pointless. Then I noticed that my research actually went up a great deal when I upgraded - given that level 2 and 3 both claimed 12RP, this shouldn't have happened. And the description implies it's the best r
Yup, happy to hear the schedule is longer. The thing some might not realize is that the longer the beta, the more time those of us who pre-ordered get to play a very evolving game. That's a huge plus to me. After this thing's released, SD will need to focus on the fantasy game, which means fewer updates.
Damn it, go home and tell your lackeys to do the same! I know my happiness is incredibly important to the world at large, but your families must take precedence at least a week or two of each year! As usual, you guys rock.
I think it's pretty petty to be bitching that SD isn't putting in enough time on this game to make all your little xmas wishes come true. Yeah, I'm bummed to not see the new races, and the lack of Korx trading fixed, and.. and.. and.... But COME ON! It's a freaking BETA for F's sake! Dates slip, sh*t happens, we all get over it. If the game isn't playable right now under some circumstances, that's really unfortunate, but IT'S A BETA! Let SD have half a holiday, and let's at least hold off
But lets say you have 5 Terror Stars, and your Nemesis has 3. Because the Terror Stars move so fast you lose 14 stars to your enemy losing, say, 20. Sure you took out your enemy, but you are so weak now that you can't even afford maintaining the Terror Stars that you have. I just think Terror Stars should be ridiculously destructive, expensive, and hard to defend against. Even a smaller empire with a single Terror Star might give you pause, even if you hav
Brad, one question - why no info on token purchases in the store area? I almost didn't pre-order because I thought there was no way to use my tokens. (Also wouldn't hurt to throw together a "order by check" section telling how to do that)
What I would like to know is simple; Can you trade techs (and use them) from the other tech trees. One thing I LOVE to do is get ALL the techs this expansion means to do that im gonig to have to keep a entire galaxy of races peaceful until they finish their tech trees and I trade for them. but will I even be able to USE those techs? since the improvements are still the same per race just called different names (aka will I be able to build slave pits and factories on t
I always dug the Korx as a concept. Sounds like they should be far more interesting in practice now, as well. Very excellent.
After many emails back and forth with Cari, I've been able to post my broken games! There may be a correlation between registering token purchases on SDCentral and these error 12s - in my case I'm certain it was at least a factor. I'm hoping to get some definitive information from Cari on Monday so that maybe others can avoid this error in the future. I'm not sure that there will necessarily be a way to fix old saves, but at the least it would be really great to be able to keep
I've emailed Cari. The latest TA changelog looks so tempting, I really want to get this fixed! If this isn't fixed, how can I un-order TA? Records should show I haven't grabbed anything new since 0.87.003, so it should be clear I'm not trying to pirate it and then get my money back.
Gads. If it weren't for my frakking error 12s on the metaverse, I'd say you guys are absolute perfection. That screen for tech info looks absolutely incredible. I kind of expect that sort of thing in a 4x game by default, but with the awesomeness of GC2, it's easy to get over an expectation like that. But now it's here. Along with other really sexy features. If GC2:TA were a chick, I'd marry her. Or capture her and lock her in my basement, assuming she refused my proposal.
Well, I bought the gold edition so my serials were the same for DA and regular GC2 (DL). So I doubt that would help. Well, that and the fact that kyro discovered that the serials are the same in the save and the metaverse.... And the fact that I can post games that I don't play throught. Bleah. Kyro, I doubt I will be able to get on IRC anytime that Cari's available due to my work schedule. It's a good idea, though, so I'll see if I can work anything out.
Any way I can be put into some kind of "queue" so that she really will be able to look into this when she gets time? I think there's a segment of players who are like me in that without a working metaverse they'll lose a lot of interest in continuing to play. If I can't get this issue resolved, I really don't want to bother with TA . TA has been a blast so far, but without the metaverse I think the tokens would be better saved for the fant
Okay, kyro, sent you a link to all three saves. I did verify that I could post games again, but I had already done these before two of the three games that gave me an error 12, so I don't really trust it. I'm not sure what happens from one post to the next, but something weird happens.... CraigHB, I don't know about 1.8f's possible issues, but my initial problem was actually before 1.8d even came out, so if you're not having any issues right now, you are definitely not experiencing wh
Ran 1.8f and had the same problem with the saved game. It appears that somehow, even though all evidence suggested that all was working, something was still out of whack somewhere in my SDCentral or metaverse character. For the record, I just now had no problem posting a retired game to another character. When paranoia about cheating ruins the honest player's experience, it's time to look for a better compromise between security and usability.
DethAdder, Shamgar, I actually did that already after my first error 12 - I in fact did that twice after my first error. Here's a quick rundown of what I've done and why I'm pretty fed up at this point: * Got error 12 on the best game of my life, contacted support, read forums, found that I should try a second character. * Was able to post a resign on second character, so started a new game. * Finished the new game with a low but acceptable score (it was a tiny map), and
kyro, good point - I'll try that, but understand I have little hope of getting this particular save game working, so if it's still a situation of "try a new game and see what happens", I'll probably still be taking off for a while.
Well, I finished a very long and crappy game just recently with the fleet bug in place. I avoided the new build because of the claim that we may start getting error 12, and having had that happen once I had no desire to get it again. Yet after finally finishing the game, and getting my second-highest score ever, I find that just like when I got my highest score ever, I cannot post to the metaverse. Yes, I've already emailed support, but as before I expect nothing to happen. Yes, I re
I suppose I can see the annoyance on such a huge game (I tend to play nothing bigger than large maps for most of my games), but all the same, if they were only as powerful as the toughest civ, wouldn't they still trash your starbases? And in that situation, would they not end up only hurting the civs that are already not number 1? The #1 nation could fight the pirates 1:1 while the others would get blown away. That wouldn't upset the game - it would simply guarantee that the #1 militar
