An intelligent approach, couslee. But, probably only 5% reduction isn't much disincentive. So, for the sake of argument, let's consider a 90% reduction (games 21-30 get only 10% credit, etc.). Now, instead of encouraging sandbagging for an infinite number of games, it's only encouraged for 20 games--not a total solution, but a definite improvement. And, a sandbagger will only play 20 games at low level in 90 days. Even though he can go back and play another 20 games 90 days
The Metaverse rewards everyone for playing the game to the best of their abilities... what ever the skill level may be...
But it's only logical that, if this is the case, then the Metaverse has to first "know" each player's ability in order to assign the proper level of reward. And that doesn't (realistically, can't) happen. (And please, readers and repliers, I'd like to leave out all the personal hurt feelings and angst here, and just discuss the prob
Some of these posts re the Metaverse are confusing me. Is it really reasonable to expect a beginner-level player to be in the top 25, when there's more than a thousand players in the Metaverse? What kind of gameplayer plays a couple of games, learns a couple of beginner strategies, and then expects to top the Metaverse board ahead of a thousand other players who have been diligently working their way up to stronger AI opponents in larger galaxies? A couple of earlier
Just to throw my $.02 in, this all seems a bit of a "tempest in a teapot". Sure, exploiting the AIs by selling them so many pretty baubles that they go deep into debt, and can't compete, may seem like a cheesy tactic...until you realize that this is pretty much what the IMF does to Third World nations out here in real life. Fact is, "tech-whoring", as it's called, is a legitimate technique on all levels of play. The game allows it, and its use is consistent with the game p
blech, MOO3 sucks. I was all excited about it and bought a copy when it first came out, then had to put it on the shelf for 6 mos or so waiting for the patch that would actually make it playable. I played one game after the patch and found it was less exciting than an accounting course taught by a boring prof. From the condition the game was in when it shipped, I can't believe QuickSilver did any beta testing at all. Thank goodness I found GalCiv :)
heh, you anticipated my next question. I notice some guys get almost double my score at painful level. I gotta work on maximizing the bang for my buck!
ya, got it, thanks Ray.
hm, well, at least when I click on my name in this thread I get a listing of my submitted games... maybe my confusion was b/c the metaverse points don't seem to be directly related to the total game points. I thought metaverse points were just simple addition of the game points. well, I'll just have to play a couple more times and see if I can get into the top 250. :) [Message Edited]
same problem here. I've submitted 4 or 5 games now. I get the message that they were successfully submitted, but nothing ever shows up--anywhere. And I've got a total of around 25-30k points, and the last game was more than 12k points, so it's not that I'm too low to be listed. What gives?
