When my research slider is at 100% I will click-click the "Turn" button a lot. Or, if I'm at But if my Social/Miltary sliders are turned on, usually I will go through my planets and focus production to eliminate any waste. It's a lot of micro, but I want to play my best game. Of course if the game's already won and I'm in mop-up phase, I might not be so detail-oriented.</p
Would striping really help a SSD? I thought the whole point of striping was to overcome some of the deficiencies of a mechanical disk, which a SSD would not have. I could be wrong, though.
It wouldn't be "striping", per se, but still, the principle is that you have redundant drives. SSD's should fail a lot less, though, so it makes less sense except for very mission-critical applications, or where the SSD would be accessed 24/7, constantly.
What I've been contemplating of late is whether SSD storage can replace mass IT storage, with RAID arrays, all that. Personal SATA drives are pretty doggone cheap compared to SSD nowadays, but not so on the IT farms. The IT guys say a personal TB hard drive would only last several days if it was, say, on the back-end of a web server farm. The constant seeks and accesses would kill it. They have special enterprise RAID arrays to handle those applications, and they
I spend almost all my time playing custom races. I see combinations between the tech trees and supers that play well together and aren't in the cookie-cutter races. Like Super Annihilator + Iconian techs. Super Breeder + Krynn. Super Diplomat + Drath. Also, the custom races always get 15 pts, whereas the cookie-cutters can go as low as 7 sometimes.
Those are belated questions, but certainly not noob questions. I play Neutral all the time and I don't know. Since it's not documented, seems the best way to find out is to load a couple old save games (one with Neutral, one not), donate a planet to an AI, then turn around and invade it several times. If you're playing ToA, try out Tidal Disruption. It's not nearly as bad as the descriptor says: it only destroys 20% of the planet improvements.&nb
On the shipbuilder, it sounds like your small hulls are really "Tiny" hulls, and the large hulls are really "Cargo" hulls. Correct? That is by design. Cargo hulls are intended to be large, non-fighting ships. On the frame rate, did you check all your preferences? I don't pretend to know what's going on, but I'm pretty sure the update resets your preferences.
Zorak, Moltar, Brak...
I'm not no movie monster silly Spaceghost!! You need a baloney sandwich! I like a beautiful baloney sandwich. Oh boy oh boy!
Is Galactopedia supposed to automatically update with ToA 2.0? I tried the "Reload data" menu in Galactopedia and didn't notice any difference in the weapons costs.
Warlords II Deluxe went wild on the mods. Everyone and his pet dragon had one. Unfortunately the AI couldn't play worth diddley on them.
Thanks for the heads up. I was going to try a miltary SB strategy as the Korx for my first game on 2.0. Ouch, this bug is painful.
I wrote an AAR on it, but I accidentally updated to ToA 2.0 before getting all the screenshots. Now I can't get all the save games with the screenshots in them. Uh...oops. [e digicons]8C[/e] To sum it up, though, the game's over. It worked out. Those high-missile-defense ships held their own just fine when I fleeted them up (to try & get that attack up). I should have equipped them with PD Combo III defense
I just now noticed the Korx. In ToA, they have a kick-butt Military Starbase tech, and it's pretty easy to get. +2 to attack all categories!! Combine that with Protective Fields (+1 D/all categories), that yields some pretty serious assist bonus. I think I will be giving these boys a whirl my next ToA 2.0 game. Since they also get an extra 10% mining bonus on every mining starbase, this should be interesting.
Argh. I'm an idiot. [e digicons]>:([/e] I updated to ToA 2.0 before getting the screenshots. Now I can't load the savegames to get the screenshots. Kinda renders this whole AAR useless. [e digicons]:(O[/e]
Speaking of good old days, I remember Warlords for the Apple II. Just a 9x9 grid, 4 players. Whole thing was written in BASIC. I kept hacking the BASIC code, and eventually I rewrote it in Pascal for the Mac.
after I played through Wizardry 6 again (which would be by tonight *grin*).
Now this one caught my interest. How are the later Wizardries? I played 1-3 as a kid, and later Return of Werdna (is that 4?). Didn't really touch Cosmic Forge. I think I got stuck on some puzzle pieces and just stopped playing at some point.
FOOD for thought (SCREENSHOTS FORTHCOMING) ----------------------------- FOOD here stands for "Freaking Obscene Offtype Defense". Because that's what this AAR is going to be about. This AAR should be chock-full of various strategies I use, but I won't be doing much of the storytelling here. This is more about how to win. Here are the settings: Difficulty: Obscene (surprise surprise) Galci
Base speed in TA is 2.
Heck, I liked 1. That was the great classic that started it all; happened at around the same time as Warcraft I and C&C I, when RTS was a new thing. The comic-book artwork is cheesy, but it grows on you. Come to think of it, I never finished playing all the maps in HOMM1.... I bet it requires Windows 95 to play. hee hee hee hee....
You'll be back. Look at my member number. :) I've been around since the Galciv1 days. But I've been on long hiatus about 3 times now. If all the old HOMM3 strategy sites are still up, you may very likely run across some of my strats. I contributed a fair amount of stuff to how to play HOMM2 and 3. Suffice it to say, Expert Slow is your friend. :)
My concern with slow ferries is not just the lost tax income, but by the time they arrive, the receiving planet grew in population and no longer needs the help. Notable exception is the Korath.
You guys are going to think I'm crazy. I just got Hyper Computers in my current game. I'm flying around in Small hulls with 3A/36D. :D Stinger I's and Aeron Missile Defense. LOLOLOLOL. :) What's more, my Korath neighbor's ships use Laser and Mass Driver. This is going to get interesting. :) :)
I have no qualms about blowing away the starbases from the Dark Yor. Anyone who introduces themselves as saying they need more bone powder and asking if I could donate my bones to the cause.....
We'll miss you. [e digicons]:P[/e]
In terms of going for different objectives, there's no doubt about that. I just want to beat as difficult an AI, on as sorry a starting position as possible. However, how are you getting a 400% global economic bonus? Isn't that like 16 green starbases? Do Immense maps really go that hog-wild on mining starbases?
