Random everything sounds worth a go except AI level (Genius). I wish you could setup teams of AI opponents eg Drengin+Yor teamed, Torian+Altarian teamed, against me!! This doesn't look possible via the UI, but maybe in some config files??? Would make a nice enhancement imo Or ALL races teamed against me - If I declare war against 1 then I need to go against all....

Lately I have been trying to change starting conditions to make the game more challenging but still fun. Many people have advocated rare everything as the hardest, but I am not sure with one 1.2. Also habitabl planets are so rare the game takes ages. I have started playing like this: Uncommon Habitable planets, Rare Planets, Rare Stars. Gigantic Map (It gives the best feeling of deep space imo). Also. Random star spacing. No Minors. Unknown AI start positions.

I tend to agree. Some of the later weapons techs should be big enough that only large hulls can support them physically or they require a large crew or infrastructure in order to function such as power requirements. That is to say some weopns are only good on certain ship classes. However the scaling does occur and when you are mid - late game i only buid medium or bigger ships which can hold more weaponry and defense. Stil, if say anti matter torpedoes were oly available on large

Since my original comment that adding new races in the expansion is just candy, I now think I may have to revise that since it has now been stated that one of the new races will have the ability to occupy different planet types not available to the player. This sounds like fun and a new dimension. In the early stages of GC2 a few people suggested that some races should be more adapted to certain planet types than others, myself included. My argument was : The Yor especially should be

@DarkMatter - Chess @Justas5 - I tend to agree that the AI was hyped and has not lived up to the promises but would your time not be better spent giving suggestions to the devs for possible ways to improve the game? Maybe you already have but I think stradock are one of the few companies who sometimes listen listen so if enough of us continue to make suggestions for improvement and where we fe

I too think Alfonses post was well written and agree on some of the points made. I disagree that the AI is designed to be taken advantage of - the game mechanics as they are - production / eco / res bonuses etc is being optimised by players much better than the AI. However this is due to the tile based planet upgrades and starbase desgin etc not the AI itself. I would state that the game mechanics as they are give us too many 'production' bonuses overall. I fully agree that addin

I agree fewer opponents and sammer Galaxies up to Large have played harder for me. Also Playing against races of opposite alignment good or evil. In terms of Stars: rare everything and loose clusters makes it harder for you to use starbases to cover multiple planets and boost manuf. and research. This tends to even things up too as noone can get more than 1 extra planet. It also make choosing tade goods or wonders a trade off as you dont have many tilees to spare. Changing your re

I have all those same problems. I dont want to reinstall to fix it though! I'll wait and see if the next beta fixes it.

I must admit that I am a bit dissappointed overall in the AI thus far in GC2. Afterall a major mission statement was improved AI verses GC1. The games are actually pretty different so maybe the AI is indeed more sophisticated but there are still too many weak areas. For the record I play either at painful all or with 1 or 2 races also at Crippling. I am also in the camp that this is a great game but the deveopers should be reminded that the AI should be the main focus for improvemen

I am not convinced the game will improve with planetary bombardment but I agree that invasion is too easy and too powerful. In Amost games I have played, MIGHT is RIGHT, meaning that invading planets to increase (economy, influence, production etc) is THE key strategy. I hope some changes are done to help planetry defence and to make invasions harder. From GC1 changes have been made to make invaion fleets a bit smaller which helps. How

Any changes to the system still need extensive testing to avoid new unintentional exploits. I like the idea that the devs plan to limit the current options to easier levels. An example of a elated exploit if economic penalties are intoduced would be that if you GIFT lots of expensive ships (that you dont need) to the AI then this can have the effect of crippling the economy of that AI race. This was an exploit noted in GC1. The AI already

I have been playing at intelligent and I too see the same AI problems. If the devs can improve this then the AI will be much tougher overall without complex analysis of game play or major coding. I will summarize again what I have seen myself and what has been mentioned above: - High quality planets are vastly underutilised overall even very late game in a Gigantic galaxy on intelligent. Note: Above intelligent level AI is not improved the AI just gets eco, manufaturing, diplo bonuse

I think there are some save game related issues: System: Laptop, 32MB graphics, 2Gig RAM 1024x768 res. Scenario. Day one played for a few hours. Reloaded Day 2 and continued... several saves restores in between. - I have the same 0 weeks left to complete but project does not finish bug mentioned elsewhere - on 2 planets. - However My Stardock dissappeared (no longer have one) )from 1 planet and neither does it ap

I have decided there is not enough constructive criticism ie. complaints to Stardock in these forums. Therefore I have tried find something to moan about.... After a long hard look I have decided I do not like the name of the game from a marketing or accuracy standpoint. Galactic Civilisations 2 is just to close to CIV 2., CIV 3 etc and just too "nicey nicey" sounding. So what will appeal to the BIG MAC chewing, coke swallowing masses......how about

yet...) . Multiplayer would need short (quick start, perhaps with several colonies/techs already available ) scenarios to work imo or it would take too long to play online.

and beginner levels would need simplified 'wizards/advisors/defaults' (whetever) + the intro campaign in order to help them out (as discussed in other threads)....

Also the devs will hopefully(probably) be tweaking AI parameters up to and after the release version. Maybe the scenario editior could be expanded to allow race customisation.

In GC1 I really missed that feature, mostly bin trying to search for class 14 planets worth colonising, mid game. So gets my vote, but the useful searches might depend on the new gameplay features.
