How does the game handle unused military points? I know when I cursor over my social production on the planet mangement screen it says unused social is automatically transfered to military production. However, it doesn't say anything about military, so I always assumed it was wasted. Consequently, I've have developed the impression that large military production was useless after I reached 1 week construction times. Recently I discovered one of my worlds occassionally creating 2 ships and in one

I have a minor Star Base rename bug that causes duplicate Star Bases to be generated whenever I rename a star base. Eventually, the density of star base 3d images causes my system ( AMD64x2 4600, Asus A8N32 SLI motherboard with a segate 500GB, 7200 rpm, 12MB cash hd, SATA 3GB, Asus 880 GTX 768MB video card, 750W power supply, 16x dvd ram drive/CDRW, overclocking not enabled, video card set to throttle PCIE 16 bus with 4GB dual channel system ram[3GB usable] ) to slow - usually around

Dear (Citizen)ToS Iceman: Are Embassies and CECs really useful for anything? I only use them on my political capital world, which also has 4 influence SBs. It only is worth it if your not the largest empire in the galaxy. Otherwise you get creamed by the UP proposals the AI crams down your throat. Trade is only marginally useful for income, whereas its often crucial for flipping worlds, and good diplomatic relations with stronger AI empires. I've noticed that trad

I had a small tech capital world PQ13 with an ORF. It got over 1300 tp by itself with discoveries. 17k tp ?! ... its ungodly ... what would you need that for? I check my techs to see if any are down to 1 week because after that its just going waste. I research all those before increasing my tp output. I admit its very impressive - must be a trophy game ... good show

I wonder if capturing the civ capital was just a fluke? The Drengin declared war on me and had 17 worlds. I was rated #1 on the CNN and went for the quisk assualt on their civ capital. After destroying their fleet (around 30 precursor corvettes) I invaded and captured their capital. The next turn they surrendered. How did they get 30 ships in their capital? Did they move them in each turn to replace losses? Maybe my graphics was just to fast for me to see(Asus 8800 GTX)? They did have some fleet

I think the AI doesn't examine the players moves when it thinks. I mean I don't really know for sure, but I have a dual core with advanced algorithms enabled and I get stuff nobody else seems to have seen all the time. I suspect the AI analyzes itself for its best course of action and then if it has extra time it might analyze player actions which it is aware of, but who knows for sure.

Dear (Citizen)CornhuskerMac, thanks for the correction. Is the Civ Graveyard a DA only or is it DA and DL both? Dear (Citizen)RedRavenGodofFire, If your referring to my game map, it was gigantic tight clusters, abundant everything. I have only played one game in DL on cakewalk with random players, randon intelligence, advanced AI algorithms selected. After that I began making senarious to test stuff I read about - wiki using cheat codes to set up and test the results. After a month of r

I don't know how random intelligence works but I always have it selected. I just change the difficulty next to it. I'm now on my 2nd game and the difficulty is set at beginner with random intelligence checked. I always have random number of AIs checked and am playing on a gigantic map tight clusters, abundant planets, and random everything else(DL). I had to select abundant planets because on random I got too many maps with nothing but class zeros with in 10 sectors. I discovered there is a rang

Dear (Citizen)vmp0514, I have read a posting that says anomalies that boost tech research by 25% are Ship Graveyards and if you hold your cursor over them they will say this. So a strategy the player mentioned for this is to change your research to large ticket items before investigating them and then change back afterwards so your original tech is uninterrupted. That would be ideal for research buildings ... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 align="abs

You know, I thought the Iconians were an evil race. But in my current game their good? They are also huge, having around a 100 or so worlds and I manage to keep them off my back. Military is my only minus in our relations and I've been as low as 60 at times with out them getting agressive. Now their going on hard times - losing worlds to I-League and me. They "attacked" me diplomatically at the UP meeting by forcing our governments to switch from Star Federation to Imperial. I was hot at first b

A follow up on trading ... I find trade is a valuable weapon. In my current game I'm Alatrian, gigantic map, tight clusters, abundant planets, random everything else -random players, random intelligence, level set to beginner - I'm still a newbie and haven't actually played a full game, just sandbox senarios. I got Iconians, Terrans, Arceans, and someone to far away to ID who disappeared really quick. Had great difficultly developing because of the range between clusters. Started out and coloni

I agree, terraforming has become greatly unbalanced. Planets should only be allowed to inrease in increments of 1 like in the game "Iron Legion", with a requirement to research each planet quality increase prior to terraforming. Figure that a PQ1 would only support an initial colony with a maximum population limit of 1b. The tech should require 1000tps to research "terraforming 2" and require 1000 economy points to perform. Terraforming to a PQ2 should take 2k tp and 2k ep, with a pop limit of 3

Good can get a building where you increase the chances that people surrender to you, but a) even when you build this it feels kind of hit or miss and b) you can turn surrenders off making this ability even more useless. Doesn't that work out in the long run? If you attack and capture the capital of the enemy civ, they surrender immediately to someone. You can get alot of worlds real quick if you just take out the civ's capital, especially on a large or greater map.

Star Bases for fun and profit 101 ... If you specialize a planet for research or trade - economy 4 econ SBs can help - better if their both in the same sector. A political capital world specialized in influence makes a great addition with 4 influence SBs - helps with those thorny UP proposals ya know. Whats better than a sector with a specialized research and economy-trade world? One with a third specialized for military production ... etc.

20k tp? A PQ32 has a colony center that outputs 24tp and 31 tiles that assuming your using discoveries out 22tp x 31 or 682, for a base total of 706tp. a ring world adds 10% or 70tp. Without a precursor library, you have to sacrifice 1 tile for a tech capital that will double your research, so ... ~1505tp(without racial bonuses) to get another 500tp you need to use econ SBs and/or bonus tiles. I've never thought about specializing before, but the math sure makes it look attractive for worlds wit

I created a test scenario for SB removal and found some fairly good results against minor races. A major race will do the honors if its against a minor like the Akillians. Major races, however drew mixed results. I set a tight cluster, rare everthing map with random everything at tough. In one cluster I put the Praxians, the Scottlingas, and the Torians. I found that allied as the Terrans with the Torians that the Torians put a military SB in the quadrant, while the Praxians put up 3 influence S

(Citizen)ToS IcemanApril 17, 2007 10:43:06 One thing doesn't exclude the other. But if they don't fix things, and improve the base mechanics, and instead add more stuff that will inevitably create more issues, they will compound and evenually become unsustainable. An interesting point ... are you then implying that the morale cap that produces 11B pop worlds with 70% tax rates is not a base mechanic issue? Or are you suggesting that any attempt to correct base mec

Reply #2 The minors each receive starting high PQ planet but lack the ability to colonize and I have never seen them invade another player's planet. With their high PQ home world they could be powerful on a small map with rare colonizable planets but I have never played those maps. Dear Mascrinthus, I was playing a game on a gigantic map with tight clusters, abundant everything, random everything at "Cakewalk" and I had just busted 100 worlds in my empire when some class 0

They also sometimes arm them. I saw the Drengin AI making transports with attacks of over 100 in one game. Offhand, I can't think of a bigger waste of resources. Dear Citizen Purge, I have to question the 'waste' portion of this. I have tried the tactic successfully in some of my games, where I didn't want to be bothered with a minor race getting uppity - a blackhole missle gun on a huge hull with sufficient protection and speed to wipe the offender out works well on auto-attack

Dear Mascrinthus and HydroAC: Please forgive the intrusion into your collective arguments about trade, but I even though I lack your experience, I have found great success trading. Earlier I discovered an extremely valuable lesson: I was playing on a gigantic map with rare everthing, at tough with random everything. With trade tech enabled I was deliberately creating a situation to test a SB theory when I serendipitously discovered that establishing a trade route between your economic
