I updated the driver for my own ATI modbile Radeon 7500 from that link. The results are: The driver can be installed, contrary to all the official ones even when doing all kinds of uninstall/reboot stuff. The game now runs. Another game (Dominions II) has some slowness and problems in displaying 3D - but then it uses OpenGL and not DirectX-. And the computer sometimes stops dead. I think, but may be wrong, it's due to overheating (which may come from overclocking). O

I also can't move the map at all by moving to the edges (actually not playing the latest beta, it's being downloaded right now so it might have been fixed). I have to use the minimap everytime and that's pretty impractical. And I desperately miss destinations to be shown on the minimap, I hope the option will become available as it was in GC 1.
Answering on the tech screen: I don't like it much. In particular, it's very hard to know which tach has been researched and which is not researchable: They both look the same. I'd also like to be able to see the description of the techs that I already know. My only gripe with the ships is the shipbuilding: It took me some time to find the build button and when my colony ship appeared it was not clear at all to me where it was or that it had been created.
Advice from me - updating to latest drivers helped for me, game is running. LDiCesare, give it a chance. You don't get it. I CANNOT update the driver because ATI drivers don't work with my ATI card. As I said, the driver I have is some beta, and no driver from ATI will accept to replace it. They usually fail during instal
I have this driver because asus can't provide a more recent one and ATI drivers do not support my hardware (all more recent drivers for ATI Radeon 7500 say they are not compatible with my card even though it's that card ). So this driver is the best I can get. It's actually a beta version, btw, so I strongly suspect it's a special driver for a particular version of the hardware t

I started the game twice, getting a crash immediately after the "game is loading" screen. Here are the 2 debug.err texts. In the first crash, GC2 just vanished. In the second, I got prompted to send an error report to MS (which I did) but couldn't get them to send them to you. Anyway, I never got to see the map. debug.err files: Debug Message: Version last updated on: Wed Mar 23 15:05:39 2005 Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.***
Brad, this forum could really use some kind of organisation. Why don't you create a topped thread for each screen you want feedback on? And a separate crash thread? People can still create new threads but the way it is now, it's a bit of a problem for the casual gamer to find out whether someone else talked about the same thing. For instance, I think the 'Choose opponent' screen is bad, and don't understand at first glance how I can pick my opponents and the numb
Star Pilot, the log shows he's got DirectX 9.0c.
plementing, it would look like the latter. Since it doesn't look expensive, it might make it into the game?
st of the source code.
g/refitting effect of the mini freighter would be delayed.
ut ship maintenance cost could increase as the number of ships increases, and the penalty would be reduced by logistics (the way building starbases costs more and more in GC).
e easy to edit in a scenario by changing the base logistic value and/or multiplier.
arvesting the bottom of a deep sea looks like a bigger challenge to me than sending ships trhough space (think very very very huge pressure).
nto different speeds based on that size.
If I'm not mistaken, Brad once posted a snippet of code used in the ai of GC1 and it looked awfully like C++.
ng to lose in order to be able to explore the next branch is dead wring. On the other hand, making a choice is something interesting, as strategy games are all about making the good choices.

rbit, and would ultimately favor attack as you could send some attack stacks, move them back to hide, and be sure to destroy small weak stacks, making speed all the more important..
le space. That is what is not clear. Is a fleet a set of ships that combine their firepower together or a set of ships that are in the same place? In GC1 it is more like the former (set of ships that move together).
its own tree, or is there something fundamenttally different?
and out.
ywhere around? Kind of got the requirement the wrong way. You should know a resources location when you can research the tech that needs it, and be able to research it only if you have that resource.
