Well for what it is worth I the real deal for the activations limits is simply to stop second hand sales.
hopefully this kind of thing will be challenged in the courts and put down at some point. If you're right, then imagine if they started doing this with books. Books are physical tangible items, treated as consumer goods, but w/intellectual property w/in. You buy the book, you aren't buying

I wonder how many people buy these games not knowing about these limitations on their ownership until after they get home (if even then). Does it say anything on the box? There are a ton of consumer protection laws out there, many of which will give you attorney's fees if you win, even in many of the states that usually don't allow for winning attorney's fees (they did this because otherwise lawyers tended to be unwilling to take such lawsuits - why on earth
RTS's I've liked: the myth series the total war series, especially since they added the TBS grand strategic mode. that's pretty much it for rts's I've *really* liked. I *pretty much* liked the kohan and dow series' because they stepped away from some of the things I don't like about all the zillions of warcraft clones, making unit strategy a bit more important, focusing the action more on the battlefront and managing units in battle and less on the making of bu
We don't need new technologies, we have an old one that'd work just fine - horses. Buy your horse now while you can! I'm off to start up my horse breeding farm! My horses will come w/cupholders!
Sounds interesting, I'll check it out this weekend
I haven't had any problems, but I haven't played the latest patch yet, and I haven't played past normal yet (next game I'll be upping the difficulty though).
I adjust it so it doesn't switch to the icons unless you are much further out than the default. This way I can zoom out pretty far and still keep things in the normal graphics mode. Then I occasionally zoom all the way out when I want icons (easier to find certain kinds of things on an immense map via icons). I like being able to switch between the 2 so easily, only a couple spins on the mousewheel and you're all the way out, boom. I use the minimap to move the view around. Wouldn
wear those old glasses you'd wear for 3d-movies, one side red, one side blue.
There was a game, I think TA: Kingdoms, where there was an option to make the fog look like . . . . wait for it . . . . fog. Was pretty cool. Of course, TA:K in general was a flop, mostly because I think it was a bit buggy and had high system requirements so many just couldn't play it, had some good ideas though and I normally dislike RTS's.
DRM is the suck. W/that scheme, I'll probably still get mass effect, because I'll probably only be interested in playing it once anyways. Or maybe I'll wait till I get a ps3 and get it as a 'greatest hit' for 10-20 bucks a couple years from now. But I'll avoid spore if it has it because I might be interested in it for a long time if I were to have it, and the hassle of re-authorizing is just somethin' I don't wanna have to deal w/the hassle of. I'm an adult, I have enough hassle w/out having
I might be repeating some things others have said, I only read half the posts, but: 1) I think the yor economy is fine and like how different they are. Their buildings are fine too. I'm not requesting that they not be changed. I'm just saying, when 'fixing' races due to complaints, fix things that aren't operating as intended, add whatever ya feel like, change 'em up in whatever ways ya feel like, but I request those doing so just keep in the back of their mind the need to avoid tak
Holy crap, I just realized I was more confused than I had ever thought. Just went back to an old save game to see if they were still alive and I do have one old enough. Guess what? There was both another Yor, *and* the Dark Yor, all to confuse my poor Yor self. Damn replicating machines! hehe The dark yor *did* have a different symbol at least, I thought they were the same race being referred to in different ways at different times. (for instance, in the screeny I posted above I'm
Curious question: Did you enable ascension victory, and if yes, how was a (relatively) quick ascension victory prevented?
No, I did not enable ascension victory. Avoided too early ascension that way. Avoided too early tech victory as well. Wouldn't have really been an issue anyways, however, as I had the best research goin' according to the charts, and won before anyone could have gotten to an ascension victory anyhow. Disabling tech trading probably helped
Another is that if you don't have the techs to build (or is it that if it isn't in your tree?) and flip/invade/buy/inherent a planet all the destructible improvements that you don't have those techs for will be demolished.
Just did a quick check in the editor, there's a flag for 'destructable', so anyone who doesn't like this could probably easily mod it, down to the specific improvement. Didn't know it also happened w/friendly transfers.
Just played a game as Yor and they aren't that bad. Like you said, you have to play differently, not use up all your tiles. But keepin tiles empty can cause you to have a bangin' economy (no maintenance cost for all your unused tiles). Combined w/good pop growth and the money comes in nicely to support a giant military. Some of the buildings have big effects for one building. Plus, smaller planets others don't care about are fine for you, you don't need many tiles, don't need to spam a bunch
My first game in TA is coming to a close (immense, so it takes a while). anyhow, noticed the following things, a couple of which are minor bugs, and the rest of which are probably not bugs but just me not understanding something: 1) when I put scouts on auto-explore, they group together and all go explore the same place. on an immense map when I want to see what's out there, having half a dozen scouts scouting only in one direction in a swarm doesn't seem right. hehe&nb
On page 34 of the manual (which it seems is actually the dark avatar manual, despite its name and cover) it says: War Alert: Players who start wars with those they have a treaty with end up with a diplomacy penalty for the rest of the game. The other civilizations will look darkly at what you have done and raise the terms of any future trades. *** So it sounds like: 1) if you aren't the one to start the war - no penalty 2) but I can't tell from the la
Ok, I understand that if you go to war w/someone that you had a research/econ treaty w/, you pay a penalty, everyone gets upset w/you. The treaties are one way, you only have 2 to give out, but you can diplo your way into getting several where you are the recipient, far more than 2, as many as you can get. So the question is, does the penalty apply to *you* when you are merely the *recipient* and you are not reciprocating? Does it apply to both the giver and taker, even in a on
Solution: Had no manual, it *said* I had the latest version, but after seeing other posts here regarding things other people had that I didn't (such as a manual, a campaign, etc..) I began to suspect something was wrong. Uninstalled via impulse, deleted the docs/stardock/twilight directory, reinstalled via Impulse - and this time I had an even *older* version - 1.80.something. Impulse though said I was up to date w/1.9etc.... Still no manual, and now an even less functional game.<br/
Hmm, I thought perhaps the manual just wasn't done yet, didn't realize till I saw this thread that I was supposed to have it. Perhaps I just missed a step when installing. i get a 'could not launch Twilight manual at the expected location', then it says where it expected to find it. Upon looking in that directory, no pdf exists. Did a search of the entire drive for TwilightManual.pdf, still nada. Did a search for *.pdf, and no GC2 manual (neither vanilla, DA, nor
. Oh, and instead of burning money on graphics, make it run on "normal" PCs, too. A new X-Com in Stardock/GCII quality? I'd immediately pre-order with the next three expansions.
I'd love a squad based tactical game for the pc, not nearly enough of them except for x-com clones. But please, somethin' other than x-com, got enough clones of that out there. UFO:ET is fine for me on that front. Maybe somethin' fantasy based, a la final fantasy tactics, tactics ogre, disgea,
I would add the ability to dispense beer. Preferably a dark beer. Maybe pizza too.
Incidentally, not a lot of people know about it, but there is an on topic video game about this. It wasn't terribly popular, most people never knew it existed, but it was pretty cool. It has the same name as many other video games, so its easy to get it confused w/these other games. It was called, simply, Evolution. It was made by the discovery channel. It was an RTS. It was hard. hehe. I still have the disk somewhere. Had some cool stuff that came w/the game too. -->[
Looking at Apple v. MS stock performances lately, MS is having troubles. Sales for macbooks (of which I own one) and ipods are way up, earnings greater than expected. MS, earnings are sadder than expected, how many of you own a zune?
Actually current studies show that seeing and acting out violance increases the chance of experiencing agressive feelings. Not to mention that with games becoming more and more realistic they are becoming training engines for anyone who ever wishes to know how to kill someone.
I'd like to see the studies, its been my experience most such studies are looking for a particular answer and aren't designed too well, and never look beyond the answer they are trying to find.
