Just as interesting as a species' physical evolution is an individual's intellectual evolution. Check out the link to the article below and let me know what you think.[link="http://www.strangelegacy.com/2008/04/28/the-nature-of-human-intelligence/"]WWW Link[/link]

Actually, if you want to play SC Forged Alliance without the CD, you can buy the game from www.direct2drive.com. I've used that site to purchase a lot of games for my laptop (I have a rule that no game on my laptop can require the use of CD's).

One unlikely effect I would love to see in the game would be true "hyperdrive" ship movement -- much like FTL in Battlestar Galactica. Basically, movement would still work the same -- ships could only travel a certain distance each turn; however, when you clicked on the spot you wanted your ship to travel it would "jump" with a cool flash of light and instantly appear in the desired location. If the desired location exceeded the movement points the ship could use that turn, it would jump as fa

I've read the recent description of the features slated to come out in the Dark Avatar expansion and as far as I'm concerned fall 2006 can't come soon enough! (Both for the release of this expansion and the return of Battlestar Galactica) One of the features I find especially promising is the need to research different technologies in order to colonize certain planets. This reminds me of one of the frist space conquest games I played, Space Empires IV. I like this idea as it extends the prospe

Forgive me if I'm mentioning an idea that has already been given, I tend to glance through posts rather than read each comment individually. I agree with those who've stated that implementing carriers would probably be difficult to do while maintaining the integrity of the games AI mechanics (each time you add a new feature, it opens up a huge can of worms in terms of getting the AI to use it properly). However, if carriers were to be implemented, here's a suggestion which might involve the le

I know a million people have probably asked this question, but how do I get the medals I earn in Metaverse games to appear on my posts? I have a metaverse character who has logged over 7 games now, and earned several medals, but none of them appear when I make comments. What do I need to do to get those to show up?

p.s. Using the strategy listed above, I am able to maintain 100% work capacity throughout nearly all of my games. Another important note -- you need to grab morale boosting galactic wonders before other civs build them, or build starbases on any morale resource near you ASAP. The happier your people are, the more you can safely raise taxes; I often have a tax rate of 50% with my approval still in the 90's.

I've just glanced through this post, so forgive me if anything I'm about to say seems redundant or has already been suggested. My strategy is pretty simple. I immediately colonize the small, unihabited planet (usually rated a "4") that appears new my homeworld at the beginning of each new game and build 3 basic markets on it (these are pretty cheap, so you can buy them outright if you want). On every other planet I colonize, I'll build a factory first and then have a market listed second in q

My great first love when it comes to TBS games would have to Star Trek, BTOF. Despite it's many bugs and interface issues, I will always fondly remember the "red alert" sound everytime my ships were engaged in battle. I also still feel that the cinematic battle scenes in that game are the best of any TBS game.

I definitely agree that this option would require an on/off switch during game setup. I certainly don't want anyone to misinterpret my intentions here -- I think Stardock has done a fantastic job with this product and even without any further changes/improvements I will be playing this game for years to come. This is simply something that came to mind as I read posts from players who were a little frustrated about the late game in a huge or gigantic galaxy. After all, it doesn't matter how go

Okay, here's a more "fleshed out" version of my idea. The Dread Lords periodically send ships from their alternate dimension to harass the younger races. These attacks increase in intensity as you become stronger and more advanced. The key to unlocking the technology to invade their dimension is hidden on three or four special planets, which are spread out in different corners of the galaxy. These planets are protected by powerful guardians who never go on the offensive, but will try to repe

To add a little more to this thought, part of why I like this idea is that the A.I. doesn't really have to do anything . The advanced race (presumabley the Dread Lords) which inhabit this other universe wouldn't need to research any technology -- they'd simply already have it. They wouldn't colonize any worlds -- their worlds would already be prepopulated. Their ships would simply pop into the "normal" universe periodically, harass a few people, and then pop out. In fact, they wouldn'

I think we ultimately have to accept a gun v. butter philosophy with the AI. Part of the reason that other Civ type games might be a little more "tight" is because the A.I. has fewer variables to deal with. We all (myself included) wanted ship design to be a part of this game. This opens up a new can of worms for the AI as it has to try and figure out how to optimally design a starship to deal with its adversaries. In games where all of the units are predetermined, the AI can spend more of i

After recently browsing the forum I saw a post that expressed some frustration about gameplay in the late game -- especially in a huge or gigantic universe. Eventually, you can get so large and strong that none of the other races can possibly stand against you. Personally this doesn't bother me too much as I enjoy the process of building a tremendous superpower -- sometimes the process of creating a "perfect society" is just as rewarding as conquering all of my neighbors. Nevertheless I think

Quick question: has anyone noticed any serious imbalance issues in the A.I. of computer players? I've played several games now, and the Torians always seem to mop the floor with the other races; on the other hand, the Drengin never seem to get off the ground and are always a minor player. Of course, this could all just be coincidence and perhaps things will go differently in future games -- I'm just curious to see if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

When adding components to a ship for the sake of appearance, how do I get a component to "mirror" itself so that it appears the same on the left side and right side of a design? Right now, when I add a wing to the right side and the left side of the ship, they look different from one another because I can't get one of them to invert. I'm sure there's a simple key stroke for this, but I couldn't find it in the manaul.
