I say it's all about Impulse and providing a bevy of mainstream and indie games via their digital distribution channel. Oooh - what's this - an article over at Gamasutra with Brad.... ;)

Wow - now that the pan/zoom feature was fixed, I have had zero problems running it under 32 Bit Vista, though I do have a different card (not a quad/SLI system but a GeForce 7600 GS). I know there are more than a few Vista haters out there, but I have had the exact opposite experience so far (and this coming from a sys admin that managed close to 6 different operating systems including Unix and Linux). My rig running Vista is way more stable than a prior optimized XP. But thi

Nobody else suggested this, so I may be totally the mark (I have been getting confused about how the attack / defense are being crunched since the recent changes involving individual weapon attack being processed seperately, etc). But your example has your three ships EACH with only 3 missile attack and 6 beam defense going against 2 Thalan ships each with something like 13 Beam attack and 9 Beam defense... maybe their defense is enough to stop y

I haven't had a chance yet to try the various suggestions (using beam weapons, stocking up on missile defense, etc.) - but the offense/defense system isn't operating like I would imagine it should. Once I give them a shot, we'll see what happens.

I am presently running DA beta 1.6 under Vista 32 Bit, and have had no problems getting the game up and running (and now that the pan/zoom slowdown has been addressed it runs incredibly well). I patch via Stardock (which is whom I purchased from in the first place).

So I am at war with the Thalans (as are most of the galaxy). I have sent fleet after fleet of ships to stop their unstoppable dynamic duo fleet from razing everything in universe. Here's the breakdown: I have: 3 Ships HP = 80 Attack = 9 (missile) Defense = 18 Beam The Thalans are using: 2 Ships HP=100 Attack = 27 Beam Defense = 18 Beam. Shouldn't I at LEAST be damaging one of their ships? I have sent over 10-12 fleets of the a

Just like to say thanks a million for the latest patch! It has cleared up the Vista rotate/pan slowdown! Thanks!

No...it's probably still having issues because of the 2D drawing. I'm going to have to try switching to using Direct3D, which is going to take me a bit longer to implement. Cool - I'll keep ducking in to check on the status. Thanks!

Stardock (CariElf), It didn't seem to improve anything as far as I can tell... P4 dual 2.6Ghz CPUs 3GB RAM GeForce 7600 GS; Latest drivers from Nvidia Vista 32-bit I can give you a dxdiag or bug dump if you think that would help.

OK, just got Nvidia's 158.18 driver loaded up, and same deal.... choppy scrolling unless I got the menu bar on the bottom hidden.... see above for my system specs. Yup - I installed the latest Nvidia drives. Performance has improved, but only marginally. Removing the UI returns the camera to pre-Vista operation. Otherwise, with the UI engaged, the camera is choppy at best. As for the whole Ditch V

Yup - this is replicated on my machine too. I have the same specs as ShunterAlhena. GalCiv 2 and DA ran like a dream under XP (same hardware), but the camera controls thus far are buggy/choppy SO LONG AS the menu bar is in view. Once you remove the menu bars... it runs fine. I can load up the background with tons of affects and max out resolution (or conversely drop it all down) to no effect. But adding/removing the menus drastically changes camera performance. P4 dual 2.6Ghz C

I totally understand and appreciate the dilemma. But, please, consider keeping it in a future release... If it doesn't appear in the upcoming expansion, that's cool. But maybe it could be a release between this and the next expansion?? Pretty please?

I was playingas the Krynn with the with the Super Spy ability, but it doesn't seem to function as listed. When I clicked on the enemy agent symbol on my planets, I would get a pop-up saying that my race had the Super Spy ability, and thus the planet was immune from enemy agents. However, my planets were LOADED with enemy agents, and they were certainly reducing the effectiveness of my planets. For instance, an enemy agent might be on a factory, and when I remove them, my prod

I would like to chime in and say I would love to see more flesh on the UP bones (as well as added stuff to general diplomatic actions such as threatening war if they don't hand over something or cease doing something). Even something as simple (relatively speaking; coding might be an issue) as have a pre round of votes for the resolution (sort of a committee meeting to determine WHICH resolution will come up, in say, 1 weeks' time) prior to

I didn't care too much for galciv I. Played it a couple of times, but for whatever reason, it didn't stick. I did think they were heading in the right direction with the game, but just hadn't gotten there yet. However, also because of that game, I learned about Stardock. I was very impressed with the way Brad presented the company's philosophy on serving the customer first and foremost, and since then, I bought a few small apps from them (

These all sound like great changes and updates. Especially those dealing with economic changes (unused social production; bonus for high morale; etc.) Any update that makes ship building easier is also aces in my book. Designing your own ships is a load of fun, and making it easier to do so is gold. I think we all appreciate how much you (stardock) take into account player feedback when designing your updates (and core software for that mat

I think Bill Elliot is right; It was definitely the Star Fleet games you were thinking of. I still play Star Fleet I from time to time. Which is a lot like Star Trek: Star Fleet bundled with FreeBSD - but the Star Fleet series had a much better UI (even for those old days!!). Anyone out there ever play the Star Saga games? Star Sage One: Beyond the Boundary or Star Saga Two: The Clathran Menace? They were ALL about the exploration of spave and had a very simple system: you used a re
