Yeah, that debt nearly killed me, but I won. The Torians never attacked again, and I held a tech+military+culture lead the rest of the game. The Torians and Altarians each had one or two systems by the end. Cultural victory for my first 237 Mpoints. Hey, it's something, considering Simple difficulty and all. I'm just glad the clinch was mid-game instead of at the end; my trade income was three times all other sources combined.

I don't rightly know the exact percentage, but you could figure it out like this: 1) the first time you ship off population, note how much it is: try for 10% just to make things easier to calculate. 2) wait too see how much morale is affected next turn and see how many turns it takes to get back to the morale level you had at step one. 3) repeat the process with shipping off twice as much population or half as much. Note the results to get an idea. You may have to d

Biffman: So you're saying that even if there isn't a formal alliance, the AI will declare war if your actions hurt their economy? That's nice, since it's the flip-side of what I was dealing with. I imagine the Altarians and Arceans didn't gang up on me because I was doing trade with them. Or maybe their Torian allies were killing off their trade with me. Hm. Popup: kick-ass. :p

Beginner AI level, I forgot to mention. I played two games on Sub-Normal before this and got completely owned. Small Galaxy. I was in 2nd place to the Torians' first before the war, and the standings haven't changed. Shortly afterweards the Arceans lost to some weird disaster. The slugs are actually offering fair tech trades instead of threats now, even though they never took those 18 DN's from what's arguably my best star system (the one I sacrificed half my people to take from the Yor). <

3rd game, I got into my first big war. In this summary you'll see a bunch of newbie mistakes; but it is noteworthy, for all those of you who are thinking about buying GalCiv but haven't decided yet, how the game makes it possible to recover and make a difference despite early losses. I kind of forgot what my whole game strategy (WGS) was (newbie mistake #1), but since I had chosen the Technologists as my party, I was pursuing as many tech improvements as possible. Earth was up to 120+2

The diplomacy model rules. But it needs a couple tweaks to make it ideal for THIS li'l' wheeler-dealer. The sliders. I'll just let that sink in for a sec because we all know what I am talking about. Somehow the size of them vis-a-vis the screen resolution makes them hard to adjust. They only need to get larger and it'll be mostly fixed. OR Make the numerical fields work like normal next fields. Which is to say you can double-click them to highlight them and whatever

This all reminds me of my last (losing) game. The Drengin used the time-honored-lame-human-player technique of sending transports around the edge of the map so you don't see them coming. Yeowtch. 3 out of 5 planets taken in one swell foop. I just quit at that point. gg, AI. :p ~SDC~

This may be covered in the docs somewhere, but I haven't been having much luck finding it... I notice that I'll turn up propaganda spending on a planet--or all of them at once, and the next turn the spending goes down a lot. By two turns later, prop spending has usually gone all the way back to zero. Question #1: Is there a good reason for this? Question #2: Is there a way to make the settings stick? You know, like the enemy's destabilization slider does? ;) <

Hehe. MOO3 definitely blew. Pun intended. There was a great game in there banging desperately on the glass screaming to get out. Some of the concepts I just absolutely adored, but the implementation covered them all up. I am also pleased to report that I forgot to eat yesterday while Playing GalCiv. A couple hours would fly by and I'd realize I'd need to get some food after this turn. Repeat. ~SDC~
