Hi! Nice study! :) It also shows my "intuitive" approach to planet building is sound. "Intuitive" being for "no-special" planets some production buildings, one morale building, the rest econ, no farms at all if my morale ability is low (no morale resources to "milk"). Morale building in early game was mostly to keep my pop grow at 100% for as long as possible. > Therefore it looks like farms (food buildings) from an income perspective are a very poor investment
Hi! > What didn't you like with Thalans in the CU? In older patches they were my production monster. In early game they could out-colonize (or at least grab best-quality planets faster than most AIs, even on suicidal. This patch tho... I had problems on CRIPPLING (25% AI bonus). :( After looking at their buildings and the tech tree I soon realized what their problem is: they need lots of research to start being productive (get buildings that w
Hi! After nearly 10 years hiatus, I'm back to this game. Finally installed TotA (never cared for it, looked too restrictive for me) + community patch 6.2.2???(something). It seems some great work has been done, but someone euthanized my beloved Thalans ;) . Fortunately I learned some modding in those 10 years, so it's time to start modding this game. Anyone still playing? Up for discussion? BR, Iztok
Hi!
Try this (or this one if you have 64-bit windows).
Same problem after fresh install from GameStop. Thanks a lot, kryo! This also worked for me! BR, Iztok
Hi!
... and decently armed (beam attack of 6). I think you should all buy this.
You know, the design is nice, if your opponetn doesn't use shields. In this game there's no "Best non-over the top, practical user-made ship". What's the best ship, always depends on a given situation. Since situation changes with applied research, so changes the definition of the best ship. But in my DA maso+ "spars
Hi!
And for that map, 4 planets was a lot. the biggest AI had 5.

How do you guys get 1000 research alone? 100% production spending?
With 700% research bonus tile and playing all-labs, 1000 flasks should be doable, if you can manage that financially. With so few habitable planets Trade Ships should be your main money-maker, covering that big money sink.
I base my race around a full research stra
Hi! GalCiv wiki at https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Civilizations_Wiki is your friend. ;-) BR, Iztok
Hi! The AI doesn't get "smarter" above "tough", but gets bonuses. If "tough" is too easy, try "crippling" ("genius" AI setting). IIRC AI there gets 25% bonus to econ, research and production. Not much, but for a casual playing a good challenge. More on this you can find on https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Difficulty_level As for starbases: from your post I'd say you're playing Dre
Hi! I'll tell you the secret: virtually every GalCiv game can be won, if you don't play the way the game was meant to play; if you don't play by your strenght, but by AIs' weaknesses. AIs in game can't addapt to certain strategies, can't change their responses, and fall to the same trick again and again. In my case, it was interesting to try and to test these strategies and weaknesses, but at the end it feelt like playing the same
Hi!
What is AIs?!!!!?!!!!?!!!!?
Artificial Idiots, "playing" other factions in the game. [e digicons];P[/e] If you want more, google for "Artificial Intelligence". BR, Iztok
Hi!
is there any way to avoid triggering the Iconians' paranoia other then sending my transports a very long way around?
IIRC with your troop transports y ou need to stay out of iconian's influence area and also stay outside their sensor range at the end of transports' movement. So I'd suggest you building a Starbase at the edge of their space, and send your troop transports to that SB first, and then to the Yor. In DL you al
Hi!
Random events - how do I even fight those damned space fiends..
If you're speaking of "Unknown menaces", I have quite a lot of experience with them, since I mostly play with 200% randoms. IMO all the random "enemies" are easy, when you learn how to deal with them, but most of them need a different approach. In the early game are the Humans and the Liir in the worst "shape" to deal with them. Because of their low combat speed they can't run away where that'd sav
Hi! In GC you have to research weapons in order to put then on your ships. At the start you simply don't have them available. BR, Iztok
Hi!
is there any noticeable difference in the ai's behavior if i use this option?
IIRC with the MAxCPU set, AIs (re)design ships more often, not only once a year. BR, Iztok
Hi!
what am I doing wrong???
Welcome to the "4x" gaming. What you're doing wrong could be hundreds of reasons, but IMO you're new to the the game AND the 4x genre, so you better follow the advice on wiki , and learn the game first. BR, Iztok
Hi! Many thanks, Mumble! Updating wiki... BR, Iztok
Hi!
and the only other thing I've found that increases research focus derived production is the Artifical Slave Center.
You sure about that? By the description of ASC I'd say it shouldn't, but strange are the ways of developers. ;-) If you're sure, I'd add that to the wiki. Oh BTW, what game version, where it works?
In the production case it's not real practical to have econ sb's all over the galaxy in order to incease production globally.
In h
Hi!
Does the hyper computer trade good increase focus-created research?
In DA it does.
Less clear would be things that give a per planet research bonus like research coordinator and tech capital.
In DA they don't. No research-boosting planetary structure does. At least they didn't when I've been doing research 2 years ago. The reason is IMO the research can be greatly boosted by mining purple galactic resourc
Hi! With cheats on, I've read you can "play" AI players. Can't find how to do that - IIRC in DA it was a combo of CTRL, Shift and some other key though. BR, Iztok
Hi! Very long ago I already proposed to remove scoring from GC. Because scoring promotes competition, and quite usually playing a score game for fun devolves into playing score sistem for more points. What we now have here is just the last stage of this: the last die-hards arguing about something no one else cares about. Gentlebeings, you're throwing around big words and accusations for a long-dead issue. Do a reality check, and start caring for someth
Hi! IIRC this was possible in older versions, but was bugged - one could "move" a capital to all planets in the same turn, and all those planets received the "capital" bonus. AFAIK now you can do that only if you lose your starting planet. However you don't get a new "Civ capital" building there. BR, Iztok
Hi!
I was eventually able to win regardless; throwing fleets of 5 small ships at his 1 HP with combined attack of 80 seemed to result in about a 1/4 chance that I'd knock him out.
Did you count actual weapons on the DL's ship? One of solutions to these OP DL ships is also to attack them with a fleet of tiny ships, whose number is larger than that ship has weapons. The catch being: each weapon would (if it would hit) destroy one tiny ship, but having large
Hi!
I really wish that all games would stay within the directories that I install them in and not spread their resources around the harddrive and especially not to different partitions.
For that behaviour you need to thank M$ Vista. Stardock just complied. BR, Iztok
Hi! IMO you have 3 options: 1) Don't include Drath in your game. 2) Mod them to have some other special ability. 3) If they're small, wipe them out in one single turn. Needs more preparation, but after you conquer their planets, they're proclaimed dead. No more messing with their fleets, SBs, and special ability. BR, iztok
