One thing you can try today is building a line (tight spacing) of military starbases with the +1 to movement upgrade on a beeline to your enemy.

Why not just do like I do and use the governors and rally points. Yes, you are still cranking out armadas of construcotrs, but other than once per planet do you tell them where to go. After that, you can use the governors to mass redirect the constructor armadas to the next starbase with two clicks. As far as building starbases in others territory I feel that it is the same as our real world age of imperialism. The powers at the time most
Yes, it does if you choose Neutrality.
The game is offered for direct download using Stardock Central.
Dead units with sensor reveal the map forever. There is a cheesey exploit to be had with this in wartime. Think about it.
Did you get the UP resolution that changed everyone to Federation at some point in your game?
The auto-explore scouts seem to have a really sub-optimal exploration pattern. They seem to do a grid sector at a time. This is great for late game coverage, but in the early game the scouts should be directed straight to the nearest systems. I hope the AI isn't using the auto-explore algorithm for its scouts (I don't think it is).
Who would ever allow a foreign, potential hostile nation to install/establish a (potential military) colony in its own territory? What choice do you have? Space is big, real big. This is the exact same situation that the European powers had in the Ages of Colonialism and Imperialism. Powers claimed
You should be developing planetary invasion well before you get major overpopulation pressure (if you don't then your opponents will).
Microsoft insisted on game developers doing this because certain versions of XP do not allow a user to write to subdirectories of "Program Files" except during program installation (i.e. you couldn't save your games).
You can only win an influence victory if you are at peace. Negotiate a truce with the Yor. The AI is not likely to attack an enemy much stronger than themselves. Oh, yeah, look at the VIcotry Screen to see how close you are to each victory condition.
Did you redesign a new colony ship to take advantage of them?
A scale in and out might work also...
Which brings up another oddity. 1000 troops means 1000000000 people.
This can be exploited big time. For example, if you are in the green on cash, you can buy any Galactic Wonder immediately and not go into the crippling debt that it'd actually cost. As a test of this theory I bought one that would have sent me to -28000 cr.
This should be fixed (I can't believe it was intentional). I've had to restart games because I had it on when I made a new game.
I had my "Expendable" class. I put a Psychic Cannon (I forget the exact name) on each and went to town.
What do you mean by charged for? If you mean are you paying to biuild stuff, then, yes, you are. An increase in production means you build it faster not cheaper.
I saw a few at my local WalMart today.
It was new and they eventually did start building, but much later than the first few games. (I panicked when I had my eight colony and nobody else had one except for thei Mars -- I posted too soon)
What is espionage? Spying. If you like knowing all about the enemies and getting the techs they know, then it is worth spending money on.
I recant. They did eventually build, but much later than usual.
It is very easy as nobody but me built a single colony ship
At beginner (heh, I'm still new at this game), they haven't built on on a 1.0X game. (And there are loads of open planets!!!) This makes it go from beginner to total cakewalk as all the "Major Races" are now demoted to minor status.
The AI on a beginner level (heh, I'm still a beginner) is not building colony ships in my game
