A Q&A with the civ 4 devs brings a GC question.. --- [Civ IV] Soren Johnson: Question: Xeno: Have you ever played galactic civilizations? Answer: Yeah, it's a good game, and I'm looking forward to the sequel as well. Not a whole lot of TBS's out there... we need more! --- http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name=XFire&file=cmspage&body=xf_devchat_civ4_transcript
I must say, xbox live arcade is really cool. Quality fun games that look great. They also have demos for them. Stardock, seems like a good place for Subspace?
Im not sure, but are starting positions balanced? On gigantic, with 4 opponents, I already have borders with everyone and its 2341, Ive been playing 15 minuts maybe. I still feel all that the beginning is about is rushing colony ships.
just in support of the above post... MOO2 (I know...) had an interesting system. They had Laser, but not II, III etc. Upgrading from Laser to Fusion was a big deal. Laser would get minituarized all by itself as time went on (I forget the specifics). So getting a new weapon was a big deal (to me at least). I don't get too excited by all the iterations of a laser...
Are empire placements totally random? I started out against 4 opponents on gigantic.. when I explored out to my influence border, I also had 2 opponents's borders touching mine. This is very early game, not even a colony ship built yet.
Ever won a game in Civ IV by swallowing up all the other cities through culture? hehe, fair enough
When I build something, I get the popup and the icon. If I choose goto planet, should that also get rid of the icon? Currently it does not.
The Iconians are said to be inventive in their desc (they created the Yor). But it says their minus is weak research skills.
So whats the deal with the lines pointing out where ships are going? Is this a debug kinda thing? Would be neat to have in game as a part of the intel system
try #2, my last post is not showing... Map sizes seem to be random even when I choose gigantic I have loads of 'string not found' I will uninstall/reinstall tonight to see if that helps
I choose gigantic, but sometimes the map is not that size, it comes up as tiny, or large... seems random. If I also go to the main menu, sometime it will crash when making a new game. I also have loads of 'string not found' I am going to uninstall/reinstall tonight.
Who wants those ships anyways? You can make your own now
tease
Will fleet battles be in beta 3? Sadly was looking forward to the space debris...
Soooooo, every ship will be shown on the screen?
True... you did not say much Any idea how big fleet battles can get?
So will weapons and such look different from each other? It sounds like the ships won't be moving....
The fleet info is interesting... What do you mean by watching fleets battling it out? MOO2 on Auto? Are we talking hands off tactical combat? Or will it just be some ships on each side, fire at something in turn.... kinda like the old fashoned war games... (or new like superpower 2 or grisby's world at war) . Thanks for the info

You can run GFlags from a Command Prompt window or use its graphical user interface dialog box." Im assuming you guys are taking advantage of GFLAGS (Which allows you to do all sorts of heap debugging)?
vs2005 is really nice That completes this informative post.
Ive been doing smallish games, just to learn more about C#. Im new to the whole OO world, so Im falling victum to trying to do C# like I would a C program, which is wrong. But Managed DirectX has been nice. I think there a battle over the speen of .NET, but I haven't seed it with 100's of sprites moving around (using Direct3D). Of course, I am not trying to do Quake or some other intensive app.
Yea, As a C coder, C# .NET has been a pleasure to use. the VS IDE is getting quite nice too.
I second Escape Velocity, its a great game. It is sorta like Flatspace, but I think it is different enough. The mods are really cool too
