I often forget to play metaverse games instead of normal games. It is quite annoying since I like using the metaverse to keep track of my games. I have a hard to remembering it since all games in Galciv I was metaverse games. Is there any possibility of converting an ongoing normal game to a metaverse game? I have fiddled with the game at all, it is just a plain vanilla 1.1 installation? Best regards

Finally I have had some time to really play the game and I must drop a note and say that it is awesome! I have played GC since the second version on OS/2 but this is probably the best strategy game I have played sofar! I had some concerns during the beta test about it being tedious using the ship design feature and managing the planet tiles but those doubts were completely unfounded! I was completely wrong. Even if I don't spend any time de
Thank you for all your replies! I can see their use now. Now I will change my strategy and give those Drengins what they deserve.
I have played a few games now and haven't quite understood how engines works in battle. Is it worthwile to have a faster ship in battles? In my latest game I got pounded by the Drengin who had more guns instead of engines. So, how do engines work? Are they beneficial in battle? Are they required at all? I haven't tried to create ships without them.
For some strange reason, everytime I run and play GalcivII my builtin Synaptics Touchpad crashes. Not instantaneously, but usually within five minutes. I have only tried to run Galciv in a window. Don't know how it fares in full screen mode. But I prefer windowed mode since I still have access to ICQ/MSN then. Any ideas? I have a fairly low end laptop with a 32MB ATI video card, 512MB memory and a P4 2.0Ghz processor.
Played my first game with 4a yesterday and the game worked fine on my laptop with only 32MB of graphic memory. Thank you! I settled for a small galaxy and it worked like a charm. Not a single crash for me! Some small bugs and glitches: (1) Usually when a new ship is available a blue semitransparent icon drops on the right side. On occasion this icon did not drop but instead got stuck on the starting point. Still worked, thoug
I'm thinking about a new laptop and personally I think that the Powerbooks seem to be much nicer than anything I have seen in the form of PC laptops. Not wanting to start a war, just my personal preference. For me there are only two reasons for running windows: 1) Galactic Civlization 1 & 2 2) Civilization IV Is there anything available for the powerbook which allows you to run these games? Some kind of an emulation that will still run fast enough to make the gam
Just wondering about the amount of graphic card memory that will be needed in the final product. The earlier betas only required 32MB of memory, but the latest beta requires 64MB. Since I have a laptop with only 32MB of memory that interests me. Galciv II is really the only reason for me to upgrade my laptop since Civilization IV supposedly works on 32MB.
I use as many keyboard shortcuts as I can and know of. However, I would like to be given the option to map different actions to different keys as in other games! That would help a lot creating a layout that works best for me. Perhaps that is added quite simply with the new DesktopX interface technologies?
I would also like to chime in and ask for complete playability using a keyboard. I think Galciv has contributed quite substantially to my carpal tunnel syndrome.
I see no real reason to have a top notch computer to play a turnbased strategy game. Besides some of us really wants it to run on our laptops so we can play wherever we are.
I have noticed some instability, though. Occasional blue screens upon boot. I installed a lot of software at the time so the drivers might not be at fault, but I doubt it. I would advice you to backup before installing.
Yeah, of course, but every minute of developer time used to browse through bug reports would be much better used cranking out new and exciting features and content for the game. But on the other hand, it is their call. Perhaps it is not worth the effort having a public bug list/database.
I think that it would be a good idea to have a public bug database of some kind to reduce the number of reports for the same bug. Since I was not able to run the beta until today I am hesitant what to report. I have neither the time nor the stamina to browse through all forum posts and there is risk of me reporting things all over again. A simple list would perhaps suffice, bugzilla seems to be a bit overkill. Or something in between - a searchable
Just wanted to chime in and thank you for your great support! Big thanks to Cari, Scott and Brad!
I had problems before but got excellent help from Cari, pointing me to a site where one could get updated modified drivers for ATI cards. The drivers from http://www.omegadrivers.net/ worked for my laptop och now I can run and play the beta. The only drawback is that the drivers are not supported by my laptop manufacturer and that I do not seem to be able to use the TV-out. But both of those are of no major concern to me. (YMMV) Posting my stats in
1) Ah, I would be very thankful for that. Wonder why Windows XP Swedish would be a problem. 2) That is rather difficult, I'm afraid. ATI informs that in the case of notebooks (I'm using a ASUS notebook) the drivers are only available through the notebook manufacturer. And the 11/13/2004 are the latest drivers ASUS offers for my notebook from their home page. So unfortunately these are the latest drivers available for me. <img src="http://images.sta
Still not having any success with the betas. After selecting an opponent (trying several different setups), the result is always the same. It says "Loading game..." or something similar and then crashes. Have tried the following to no avail: * Run in windowed mode. * Multisample = 0 in the prefs.ini file (but this was the setting from the beginning on my system) * Different resolutions Sending crash logs to Scott as usual.
I would really like RSS feeds as well. Or a NNTP access.
Hahaha! Retro!
I would very much like to have a research queue.
Tested the new 0.11b[b].002 beta and I am still having the same crashes. Sending the logs to Scott.
According to MS DirectX 9.0c site, the DirectX 9.0c end-user runtime was released on the 4th of August 2004. You have to have dated drivers in order to have an incompatibility problem, I think. ASUS provided new graphic drivers on the 15th of September 2004. Link
Unfortunately I do not have a NVIDIA graphics card but a laptop with an ATI graphics card. I have the latest drivers available for the laptop through ASUS homepage.
CariElf, no I am not changing my civilization name or homeworld name. At least not the last times I have tried to load the game (what I did the first time in the excitement over the GC2 beta, I don't quite recall . I have updated to 0.11[b].002 and the problem still remains. Sending new crash logs to Scott.
