I have been a fan of Galactic Civilizations since I first played it on OS/2 many years ago. But I must say that Twilight of the Arnor is the best yet. The introduction of the new espionage system turned me off playing completely but in ToA the update has made the game enjoyable for me again. Looking at the metaverse I see that my first game of Galciv II was posted the 14th of March 2006 and my last today on the 23rd of December 2008. I can't think of any other game besides Civ

Thank you for the tip! I turns out that it was either Pidgin or Object Dock that was causing the slowdowns. Pidgin I could just minimize but OD Plus I had to turn off while playing. But that doesn't matter much as long as I can play.

[quote]I know one of the updates in 2.0 would be to allow people to assign espionage agents to a civilization rather than a planet so that they can collect info and such without being at risk of being nullified (more like the Dread Lords espionage). [Commander] [Former Top 25] [5 Game Winner] [Custom] [/quote] Great! That alone is worth the upgrade money for me.

I get really low performance running in windowed mode. Are there any pointers as to what settings could be tweaked to get better performance? In full screen mode, everything works perfectly with all the bells & whistles running at 1600x1050 but in windowed mode it is barely usable.

I can confirm that I got invisible ships too in my latest 1.8a game. The graphics came back when I reloaded the game.

For some reason I can't seem to create alliances in 1.80a. I might have a cold and my brain full of sn*t but shouldn't it be enough to have the Alliance technology and being close with the race you want to ally with? I have the Alliance tech and when I entere the Diplomacy screen for any of the races which I am close with, the Alliance option never appears.

I have submitted several crash reports where the game crashes when I try to save. I have included a save game which is the latest one I could save, after that - boom. I submitted the reports while running beta 1 but I get the same behaviour in beta 2. So the problem seems to remain.

Well, I loaded an earlier savegame (several hours, sigh) and started to replay without any problems. So I guess that the savegame is corrupt. No more crashes this time around.

I was playing the latest 1.7 beta and enjoying myself when it suddenly crashed. After the crash I was able to reload and continue but after yet another crash DA crashes upon each load of the save game. I have submitted the required files from SmartException. Otherwise the game was playing like it used to be, IMO. But I would really like to continue my game, things were tensing up and all races seemed quite equal.

EA has released C&C Gold for free! It is going to be fun to play around with this again. http://www.commandandconquer.com/intel/default.aspx?id=61#NewsMain

And now each turn I put an Agent against that largest race to hamper their production. They have no hope of killing my agents now because my economy is way larger than their economy, and they are at war. That seems like a great use of espionage. Lots of fun, and very effective. Also, once you have one Agent you can use the Agent to slow down production on enemy planets where they are producing the same sort of unique building that you are also in

Also anyone know if spying is a minus in terms of relationship with the other empire? I would think it is but haven't been able to keep spies out long enough to see if the reported status effects change at all. I would like to know that as well. Does anyone know?

Bingjack, you expressed it so much better than I did. For me Espionage now seems to be a cross with the old destabilization (how do you spell that?)feature and the old spying functionality seasoned with additional micromanagement. Is there a way to get the spies to work in a non-destructive manner? I would like to get information on my allies or my potential allies as well but I do not want to penalize their production doing so.

Played my first game of DA yesterday and it was great fun! I just keeps getting better and I already thought it hard to improve on GC on OS/2 back in the day. However, even if I liked all the new stuff I found the Espionage change tedious. I saw the option of editing one of the configuration files in another thread but would it be possible to have a switch instead? Or should I just give

I don't get to play very much. I do alright when I can get a good map. I started out with the original game on OS/2. Looking at the GalCiv forum (the NNTP based one), I see a few posts for 2005, none for 2006. To move with the community seems like a compelling reason to switch to the new game. Is there anybody out there who wished they had stayed with the ori

My turn button turns green most of the time but not always. I second (eh, third?) that it is not working 100%.

Yesterday I played a small galaxy on the Challenging difficulty level. It was a decent game, a bit too easy but still fun. The planets were fairly evenly spread and most races had two planets. Today I decided to up the difficulty a notch, from Challenging to Tough. According to the GalcivII Wiki this should be one up from Challenging. I had some problems getting a decent start so I CTRL-N a few times to ensure that we all got about two planets each, not enough so someone should be too f

I also experience the confused graphics syndrome. The Tranport ship graphics changed to freighter, and the constructor graphic changed to something else. Somewhat confused things in my midgame.

You people are lucky. I abandonded my DL campaign several times after DL ships in the middle of game decided they need some ship defendes and got 16-50 in defense which made it game over for me. P.S. Normally, onlt tiny ships win against DL, but if they put defenses it *is* game over regardless what you have. I have this problem as w

Dark-Star, Thank you for the CTRL+F5 tip for Firefox, it was all looking distorted before that. Now it looks really, really excellent. Now I just miss RSS integration. Great work!

I have an old Asus notbook with 512MB of memory and a 32MB ATI graphics card and it works fine. Can't run on the highest settings but that is fine by me. Don't need all the bells and whistles to enjoy this game! Carielf pointed me to some newer ATI drivers as the ones I had were to old. But after that, everything has worked smoothly.
