GalCiv II and Synaptics Touchpad

For some strange reason, everytime I run and play GalcivII my builtin Synaptics Touchpad crashes. Not instantaneously, but usually within five minutes.

I have only tried to run Galciv in a window. Don't know how it fares in full screen mode. But I prefer windowed mode since I still have access to ICQ/MSN then.

Any ideas?

I have a fairly low end laptop with a 32MB ATI video card, 512MB memory and a P4 2.0Ghz processor.

The sound does not work that well and has some minor glitches and my graphic card does not seem to keep up very well. But that can be understood. The TouchPad drivers crashing is a bit more odd and annoying.

That is odd. I also have a Synaptics touchpad. Sorry all I can offer is:

*) See if there is an upgrade to the touchpad drivers.

No problems playing on my laptops with Synaptics touchpad/driver and I also run 99% of the time in window mode.. As with Mr D, I can only suggest checking for new drivers. Go directly to synaptics rather than your laptop maker, since in they're anything like Acer they're normally a few revisions behind.

Since drivers run in kernel mode though, it might not even be the touchpad driver failing, but another one pooping all over it's memory space. Update your gfx and sound drivers while you're at it, just to be safe (and anything else you can, eg chipset).
