IGBMs would seriously unbalance the game IMO. A race would need only to spend their time building a set of missles to the exclusion of everything else. Have a set of short-range ones to toss at any fleet that comes within striking distance of your planet and you're pretty safe. Late in the game, you send out your swarm of missles to take out all enemy planets relatively near your core empire. It also doesn't really add much to the strategy aspect of the game. Th

I'm going to jump in again on this one. Lets say we're going to work with pseudo-science in relation to FTL and Black Holes. Here's a great bit about motion through space at superluminal speeds... comes from Nemesis by Asimov: At sub-luminal speeds, mass has a gravitational effect that pulls matter towards it. Think of normal sub-luminal travel to super-luminal travel as a flat line, with the speed of light as a point in the middle. Sub-luminal s

You can rotate your main view so that it is at a "90 degree" angle. I'm not exactly sure why games do this (the diamond map), but it's been a convention for strategy games as far back as Age of Empires. Personally I like it as it makes everything feel bigger than it might actually be, more epic.

Radial Menus and Nested Menus are very tricky to implement. NWNs menu system was generally poorly received as you couldn't get to what you needed quickly or easily (not to mention the high-light targets were too small to hit if your mouse was moving at any speed). Nested menus (ala MoO3) are often too hard to find. I'm sure there were settings and options I never found in that game because it was in some nested menu that wasn't clearly marked as such or w

I would like a research queue too. I'd love to, in the early game, setup my research map and let it go for the rest of the game, tweaking it when the need arose. Leaves the option for micromanagement for those who want it, but lets those of us who don't, to cut it out.

Stardock Central has been giving me errors when validating serial numbers for anything aside from my TGN or ODNT subscriptions (BlogNavigator, ObjectDock Plus, Natural Desktop etc...) for the past week or so. You may be experiencing the same problem I am, only with a different product.

Happy Birthday Cari (and sister)! Hope you had an excellent day. Can we get the espionage component of the game be managed through Pac Man?

Asteroids will be in... either as the survey objects as they are now, or possibly in addition they will be minable for resources. Details are thin at this point Black Holes are an issue of debate currently. I am in favor of them as they make the landscape more interesting, but there is argument on their size on the map. Some say to be a bit more realistic, they would only block out one grid square, much like a star does now. If design went that way, Blac

Those borders (to the best of my knowledge) represent the line of control between empires, not necessarily the influence area. Your influence may extend beyond your borders, but those areas are still controlled by the enemy. There may be another map overlay to indicate influence areas, but I think the colored line right now represents your actual owned territory.

Last night I fired up the game and was just sort of messing around. Within 5 turns I got a message saying that there was strong pro-Dreg sentiments on my home world. Two turns after that it had gone and rebelled. A few turns later, my second planet started to rebel, a turn or two later it was gone. Three turns later my third and final planet jumped ship on me and I lost. Reading about how the AI isn't really in the game yet, or isn't very good and then l

Could you add the following map movement controls? -Directional keys move view (i.e. hitting the up key should scroll the screen up relative to my view angle and such) -Pushing my mouse to the edges of the screen should move my view in that direction (i.e. moving my mouse to the far right should move my view of the map right relative to my viewing angle) The mouse one is the big one for me... it's just something I've grown so used to doing that not h

Judo... 1. You can not clear the ship building queue right now, it's one of the issues I raised in my previous post in the thread 2. If you're still seeing the shield icon there may still be a ship in orbit. Currently you can't see the ships in orbit, you just have to click on each square, click launch. If you go through all the squares it should clear the shield icon 3. In the design window, if you want to remove a piece of structure, click on it from the 3d pane and it should

Spaceport issue- Let me check NONE or somehow clear it so I'm not in the process of building a ship. Ship Design- Niggling issue here, but the engines are so small on the model, yet they take up a huge amount of space. It doesn't seem reasonable. Colony pods... As it stands right now I think it's impossible to reproduce the standard colony ship in the design screen due to how big the pods are. Structural doodads... Can we rotate

A few of my own thoughts on that screen: 1. I want to be able to select a tech that's several steps from where I am now. It should be able to select the proper path of technologies from where I am to where I want to be. It could then maybe have an overlaying "connect the dots" line of sorts showing the path. 2. I know the completion bar at the bottom right of the screen isn't complete yet (ironic), but it's location isn't the best, it's easy to miss.

Yes, your ships are white because there are no textures for them right now. There should at the very least however be a little bit of blue striping maybe, perhaps some red dots on occassion.

Well, according to my calendar it's March 24th Which means, if all goes well in an office building in far off Michigan, we'll be seeing the first beta of GC2 before the day is out! I know everyone's been chomping at the bit for this to get underway and now that the day is here we're getting antsy. IRC has been surprisingly busy the past few days even. So, my question t
